Time to make the billionaires pay up. According to a new report, if the world’s 3,000 billionaires had to pay a minimum amount of tax each year, equal to 2% of their wealth, global tax revenues would be up to $380 billion higher. Governments around the world could use that money to tackle to inequality, poverty and the cost of living. What do you reckon Clive, Gina, Rupert? You in? ✋
The Greens moved a motion in the Senate to recognise the state of Palestine. We could have joined 147 countries who already have, but Labor & the Liberals shamefully voted against it. Senator Payman courageously crossed the floor to vote with us, showing up every Labor MP who pretends to care but doesn’t take action. We will not stop pushing for justice for Palestine, and for an end to the occupation, invasion and genocide.

Both Labor and the Liberals are in the pocket of polluting companies. Both taking donations from them. Both voting together to stop the Greens overturning Labor’s latest billion dollar gas project approval. When it comes to more coal & gas in a climate crisis: Labor and the Liberals are on a unity ticket. If you want change, you’re going to have to vote for it.
This is Labor in 2024. Members of their own party have to vote against them to support Palestine. Seriously, where is the red line for Labor? If it’s not genocide, not starvation, not murder – then what is it? You’re out of excuses Prime Minister.
Nine gas projects. Five coal projects. That’s how many fossil fuel projects have been approved since the Albanese Government came to office. The International Energy Agency has said no new coal, oil and gas projects can be built in order to reach net zero by 2050. But Labor care more about lining the pockets of billionaires like Gina Rinehart and the fossil fuel CEOs.

Just dropping in to remind you that this week Labor voted against the Greens bill to break up the supermarket duopoly, and end price gouging. It’s shameful that while people can’t afford food, rent, medicine or any of the things they need, Labor would rather prop up the super wealthy and billionaires. We need massive systematic change. We’ll keep fighting for you.

Labor’s latest plan to solve the housing crisis is to give more tax handouts to private developers so they can build more apartments which nobody can afford. As @mchandlermather put its – Labor claims 10% of the apartments will be “affordable” but their definition of “affordable” would see a nurse in Marrickville paying $657 a week in rent, which is more than 50% of their take home pay. Public money should not go to developers to build unaffordable apartments. We’ll fight so that renters can actually afford their homes.

For First Nations justice to be delivered, we must tell the truth. That’s why the Greens will introduce a Bill to establish a Truth and Justice Commission. The misinformation peddled during the referendum campaign showed the urgent need for truth-telling. To move forward, we must be honest about the violence and dispossession at the heart of this country’s history. “The work we do now must be grounded in our self determination to chart our pathway forward to achieve better outcomes for First Nations people, communities and our collective futures” @dorinda_cox
