Empty random hotel gym shenanigans
Happy Monday
Random hotel gym, mid set narcissism. I killed my clone, I will win the day.
With over 17,000 days under my belt, today seems insignificant. How can this one drop in that bucket be of consequence? Today I experienced all the things I sought to escape most of my life. Today, I felt fat. Today, I felt anxious. Today, the hint of evasion through chemical escape was whispered to me, by me. Today I accepted my life with openness, I welcomed my shortcomings, and looked for improvements where possible. Today I sought relief through acceptance of discomfort. Today is the most important of all days because today gives me hope for tomorrow. I killed my clone. I will win today.

I said March 9th in the video, it’s Sunday March 10th that I meant 🤦🏻♂️! If you’re in New York on March 10th and would like to go for a walk, email [email protected] for the location. • Where to begin? The beginning of any journey starts with a single step. It’s a hackneyed trope, but true nonetheless. The journey might even be littered with countless instances of first steps. Every tired morning requires a first step, one foot before the next, just to get out of bed. I like moving my body through space and time, outside, because I always -full stop- always, feel better afterwards. This is possibly due in some part to never actually wanting to begin, but once I overcome this, and succeed, I’ve won. I’ve proven to myself that I can do something that isn’t strictly fun, that indeed leaves me feeling better, but is in some part a constant negotiation or minimally, a dismissal of the urge to quit, to pack it in, to give up. The speed, distance or difficulty has nothing whatsoever to do with my goal. My gain is simply and profoundly in accomplishing something I set out to do. Taking a walk requires no great commitment, no annual dues, no major life rearrangement, the barrier to entry is as low as it gets. There are plenty of groups for like-minded people to get together and do something active, running and cycling meetups, amateur sporting enthusiasts gather on weekends and evenings to practice or “play” with each other. The community within these fellowships can be quite powerful. We together are greater than I alone. So, whether I wake able to remember the reward of accomplishment and ready to tackle the new day, or feel failed, useless, and long to remain in bed, I take a walk. I look around at the world around me and am reassured that it’s not as bad as I’d thought and that I am capable of that first step. Join me for a walk. 🚶🚶♀️🚶♂️
Will the chocolate forest survive my stay? • Continuing my pursuit of mental clarity through exercise, despite disruptions to my routine. • Waking up in a hotel I find so many more reasons to lay in bed floating through my head, the chatter in there gets LOUD. That noise is eclipsed by how I feel physically and mentally when done at the gym. • And it definitely helps that @fshotelneworleans has one of the nicest “random hotel” gyms I’ve ever been to. #FSNewOrleans • Win today

Had a great time walking with these fine folks in Calgary this morning! • Every journey begins with two things, a first step and the intention to go in a direction. For so long, I’d hoped that the first step was enough, that inertia would carry me the rest of the way. Unfortunately for me, that wasn’t the case. And so, I’ve had to remind myself, every step is the first step, and every step requires just as much intention as the last one. • Looking forward to the next @americangluttonpodcast First Steps Club walk!
