AN INVITATION TO ALL MEN AFTER THE ACTIONS OF JAMES HARRISON, WHO TOOK THE LIFE OF ROWAN, LEAVING ROWAN’S MUM, DR SOPHIE ROOME, WITH A LIFE SENTENCE. Please watch the whole thing. Please don’t be offended. This isn’t an attack on you. This isn’t saying all men are violent. This isn’t lumping you into some category of abusers. It’s an invitation for us to really think about how and why we look at the men who commit these acts in a way where we “let them off the hook.” And it’s a chance for us to think about what kind of future we want to create. FULLY FUND FRONTLINE SERVICES I spent the day in Griffith, regional NSW, speaking at their annual DV conference on my dear mum’s birthday. Every year when I ask mum what she wants for her birthday, she smiles and says, “There’s one birthday wish that no-one can make come true – time with my Niki”. Men’s violence is an issue that crosses every part of Australia, but we can’t pretend it’s the same everywhere. Meeting with, and hearing from, the frontline services in regional Australia is a privilege and a reminder of our responsibility to community. These areas feel some of the worst impacts of social issues yet are the last to receive support. Government types, if you’re reading then fully fund services *ahem* Thank you to Linking Communities for having me and to legends @simonemobrien and @_davekramer for being beside me and all that you both do, you’re legends who inspire me ✊🏾
