➡️Avril began her career as a Mental Health Nurse before progressing through the NHS. In 2003 she was appointed ‘Director of Nursing’ in Cheshire and the Wirral, where she remained until her retirement.
In 2016, Avril received an MBE in the Queen’s ‘New Year Honour’s List’ for Services to Mental Health Nursing.
She is the Trustee of “Jamie’s Fund” a charity dedicated to assisting hospitals in Uganda with developing their community mental health services. Established in memory of her son Jamie, the charity has been instrumental in helping to shape and develop mental health care across Uganda.
Avril is also the proud mother of two adopted boys, and she shares in this episode the joys and challenges of raising children who have experienced trauma.
