Carolyn Hennesy Instagram – Berkshires, Saturday, Day 6: spent the morning combing through over (I’d say) roughly 6,000 pieces of Asian art and antiquities…found beautiful things. Bill…the proprietor of the largest Asian art gallery in the world…was gracious enough to let me in before 10 AM. He regaled me with stories of Asian culture, history, religious details, and his own his home in Indonesia which has 17 temples on the property. The store is mind-boggling.
An intensive rehearsal…there are some balletic stretches in this piece and we spent the day discovering our dance moves. I’m speaking figuratively, of course.
Our director, Matthew Penn, had the cast/crew over to his extraordinary home for dinner last night. I’m attaching pictures of his backyard which, if I could work it out, I would never leave. He has a pond (made by his father) bears and turtles and rabbits and squirrels and a view that is almost unparalleled with anything I’ve ever seen from a private home except Sabrina Laila Kern’s chalet in Switzerland with a view of, y’know, the Alps.
Great conversation about the state of the theater as art and business. Focused primarily on the area’s local and regional theater, and Broadway, so I sat quietly and listened. Listening is good. There’s a big loop I’m out of but, being here, I’m inching my way in.
We all strolled in the grass by the pond (which is warm enough for swimming…and I brought a suit!), but…after a thorough check…I’m happy to report:
