After the HORROR of yesterday, important to observe that the strikes on #Rafah are ongoing
Coupla bits from recent Sunday Independent feature on #disobedientbodies. This book continues to travel 🕊️ When I was growing up one of the biggest insults was “she loves herself” think about that… (This is in reference to our convo @garydunneinsta ) “In meticulous Dabiri fashion, she delves into the past that has brought us to our uneasy present, covering witch trials, colonialism, patriarchy and capitalism, interwoven with the story of her own relationship with clothes, makeup and beauty. It is Dabiri’s skill that she can marry an argument on adornment as a form of oppression with a discussion of her youthful eyeliner obsession, but that’s what she does”. “Because our bodies are, as I’ve said, our interface with the world. So wanting to present them in certain ways should be something we can enjoy without always holding on to the fact that for women in particular, our appearance is not the most important thing about us or not the thing where our value should primarily be placed.” “I think no matter who you are, there will always be somebody who is better looking than you or perceived as better looking than you. There will always be someone more successful, based on particular metrics. And because so many women and girls are told their primary value is the way they look, that becomes a very vulnerable position to occupy. It’s very fragile and you’re constantly in this trap of comparison and competition and insecurity.” “I don’t spend that much time scrolling through images of other women. I’m not really on it like that. I’m not deeply invested in strangers or the way strangers look.”

Big Dublin head on me, I often think my facial expressions body language are quintessentially Dublin does anyone know what I mean ? (Pic 1) 🤣 Anyway, it’s mad to me that I came to books as a child in large part due to isolation, and they’ve brought me more connection then I could have ever imagined ☺️ It was a huge honour to be back on home turf for @ilfdublin last weekend. Thank you to all of yis that showed up, I’ll never get over the love readers show me. When I was starting out another author told me that once I was more seasoned I’d scrawl my name and be done with it but no still taking too long trying to write notes in each book until I’m eventually and inevitably hurried along by production 😅 Thank you @maeveinamerica for being a stellar chair, gas craic, sensitivity and considered research made for fantastic questions and prompts I enjoyed it immensely I walked outside and strolled through the square to look up and see a plaque on the gaff of an old favourite writer of mine another Dubliner from another age Sheridan Le Fanu and it was a reminder that Dublin made me a writer as much as anything Also thank you @ghostfashion for this dream of a dress ! I will find any occasion to dress in slinky silks 🦭🦭🦭
