(bell hooks) It’s difficult to love men like this because they can’t receive the love you have to offer. They want it but they CANT receive it. You are just one of many…the jump from woman to woman, sticking with whoever is willing to endure their tests the longest. It isn’t that they are emotionally unavailable, because they’re absolutely able to show up in anger, frustration, rage, annoyance, self-righteousness, etc. They’ll make you the whipping girl and dare you to love them as their mother didn’t. Try as you might, you will never love them enough because they can’t receive it. You’ll let them continue to unload on you because you want to be that “safe space”. You feel special because he opened up to you and no one else sees that side of him. You realize that no one else sees that side by design; you’re the only one who knows the truth. Or maybe not? Maybe the others saw it too and that’s why they eventually left. Maybe they couldn’t take being tested knowing he would never let them pass either. The first time he yelled at you, you accepted that he was mad and it happens. Then he yells AND curses. Work stress. Then he yells and curses AND calls you out of your name. Must be baby mama stress. Then he blames you for his raging out because if you had just watched your mouth, you wouldn’t have provoked him. Then he punches a hole in your wall. Then his hands are around your throat. And no one will ever believe you because he’s so kind and generous and charming. If you break up with him, you’ll be abandoning him like his mama did. Like his ex did. You wanted to show him something different but until he heals his mother wounds, he won’t see you as anything more than another woman he can’t trust or let in. If he doesn’t kill your body, he will kill your spirit. And everything you believed about love will die with it.
