Hallea Jones Instagram – @thislittledisaster 🌿🗽I deleted the instagram app a bit over a month ago and can report it did wonders for my mental health and my creativity.
Highly recommend.
I downloaded it yesterday so I can post about the exciting things happening this weekend and have already wasted more than an hours worth of my life scrolling. I’m constantly in a tug of war with social media.. it’s “essential” for my “business” (being an actor & musician) but it also hinders my creativity due to over consumption rather than allowing my brain to play within the realm of boredom. Sure there’s things on here that can be classified as inspirational and thought provoking, but I realized I can’t casually consume this form of media. As an ADHD person who loves a good hit of dopamine, it’s hard to manage my use of it (as it is for many of us, adhd or not).
The biggest aspect that I get frustrated with is how much this platform can be (and has been) beneficial to my profession. I am a business. All actors and contractors are. I need to market my business. My business is public. I need to utilize the tools at my disposal to benefit my business.
But I am but a girl.
A girl who becomes moss in the company of easily consumable content. So, I appreciate everyone who sent a “I noticed you were missing! Glad to have you back!” message cause it makes me feel like all the years I have put into this app haven’t been for nothing.
That being said.. I mustn’t allow myself to moss. I have a business to build, and a life to live, in the real world, off my phone.
I highly recommend if you’ve been struggling with doom scrolling and feeling like your life is being wasted on this app to delete it and take some time away.
Sit in the uncomfortable silence.
Stare at a wall.
Watch ants communicate (it’s fascinating).
Take care of your mind and your creativity, and the only hours we have at this age, right now, forever. | Posted on 30/May/2024 20:45:33
