India de Beaufort Instagram – This is Ella, my Nan, one of the few great loves of my life. She was my second parent, and I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. Thank you for being there for every moment that mattered Nan. Thank you for being my first phone call when I was sad, or scared or excited to tell you something. Thank you for slummy in the bath tub, Ice cream and lemonade, sweets under my pillow, sing song walks to school, fairies in the garden, chucky egg, apple pie and tea and toast before bed. Thank you for the notes. The pearls. The lisptick. Thank you for the hugs. I hope you knew how badly we needed you. No one will ever be as proud of my brother and I as my Nan was. No one will ever be as happy to see us. My Nan had a childlike glow that made every moment a fairytale. I have some pages from her journal, and every entry is a celebration of even the simplest day in her life, and I’ll spend mine trying to learn how to share in her contentment. I slept on a mattress on the floor by her bed for the last 8 days of her life. Some nights my mum and I took shifts holding her hand. Singing songs. Telling stories. We kept watch. Just as she has over us all our lives; and somehow always will. She’s the butterflies in the garden. She’s the stars in the night sky. She is love. The Best Nan in All The World and Far Beyond.
