Janaki Sabesh Instagram – My heart is full today. Holding this precious award in my hand that is more of an affirmation for having chosen the right direction as a storyteller. I feel extremely happy to have received the ‘Siraar Kadhai Sirpi’ award (roughly translating to sculptor of stories for children) for storytelling, from the prestigious Paavai Group of Institutions, @paavaiedu as a part of Paavai Awards 2022.
Why is this moment very special?
Few years ago when I decided to shift all the gears in my career into storytelling, it was difficult for everyone to be onboard. Could storytelling really be a standalone profession? Despite this big question, they strongly believed in me and my decisions.
Being a storyteller is an opportunity to sow the seeds of imagination in hearts and minds. With every story shared with children and adults across age groups, I sense how the values in the stories rub off on me as a person too.
In this exciting journey, as I continue to hone my skills, trust my diverse work experiences, and be committed to the process that unfolds, I owe a lot to the self-made woman in the picture (swipe right) my Athai who is my cheerleader at all times. In fact when I wanted her to pose with the award for a photo, the joy and pride she expressed for me was matchless.
A big thank you once again to @paavaiedu Paavai Group of Institutions, Founder and Chairman, Shri Natarajan Varadappan sir, Smt. Mangai Natarajan ma’am (correspondent), and @avantinatarajan (Director, Student Affairs) for felicitating me with this award and recognizing storytelling as a powerful transformative art form. Elated to have received the award from Padma Shri Dr. Sirpi Balasubramaniam sir, a renowned Tamil writer, and poet, and also shared the awards stage with luminaries from various fields.
An award is always a gesture of appreciation that fuels us to do more. So here’s a promise to myself, to touch more and more hearts through stories.
