Melissa Navia Instagram – I have been looking forward to working with the @GeenaDavisOrg since I saw their data-driven work and impact on the documentary This Changes Everything. It prompted me to re-examine certain aspects of the industry I love and reminded me of the responsibility I have as an actor to seek out stories that have not yet been told, that are reflective of the world we live in, and that particularly spotlight girls & women in the roles, lives, and multitudes they have always inhabited and thrived in and yet that we all too seldomly see on-screen.
So I am very excited to join the @GeenaDavisOrg and @ifthenshecan in Los Angeles at the @ebellofla this Monday, February 12th, for their release of Portray Her 2.0, their joint study taking a closer look at how women in STEM are represented and reflected in film and television. We will discuss what has (and has not) changed over the last 15 years, the importance of quantitative data in identifying and addressing the lack of accurate on-screen representation, and how we can transform our industry and influence our audiences by bringing more diverse STEM stories to our screens.
