I have been looking forward to working with the @GeenaDavisOrg since I saw their data-driven work and impact on the documentary This Changes Everything. It prompted me to re-examine certain aspects of the industry I love and reminded me of the responsibility I have as an actor to seek out stories that have not yet been told, that are reflective of the world we live in, and that particularly spotlight girls & women in the roles, lives, and multitudes they have always inhabited and thrived in and yet that we all too seldomly see on-screen. So I am very excited to join the @GeenaDavisOrg and @ifthenshecan in Los Angeles at the @ebellofla this Monday, February 12th, for their release of Portray Her 2.0, their joint study taking a closer look at how women in STEM are represented and reflected in film and television. We will discuss what has (and has not) changed over the last 15 years, the importance of quantitative data in identifying and addressing the lack of accurate on-screen representation, and how we can transform our industry and influence our audiences by bringing more diverse STEM stories to our screens. Trekkie for life 🖖🏾 I first met @mcnavia a year ago at the Humans to Mars Summit and during that brief interaction we had a great conversation so when I was headed to her stomping grounds (NYC), I was thrilled that we could meet up for dinner. We have so much in common that we talked for hours. I have been a #Trekkie my whole life and it’s one of the reason why I wanted to be an astronaut. Science fiction enables us to imagine a world filled with adventure, hope, and new technologies that eventually become science reality. I was selected for @inspiration4 because I wrote a poem called #Space2inspire where I talk about creating a #JEDIspace – a just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive space for all of humanity. it may be a #StarWars acronym but it is totally a #StarTrek meaning from being a life-long Trekkie. I am filled with gratitude to be able to call Mel my friend and love how we are creating J.E.D.I. Space both on screen and off. 🙏🏽👩🏾🚀🚀🌍
