HUGE THANK YOUs to the small group of magic makers who made this Memorial Day as meaningful and special as it was fun and, well, memorable. It was a privilege to sing our National Anthem once again at our Nation’s Capitol for @pbs. In this @memdaypbs program we celebrated and remembered our military service men and women & their families for their sacrifice and commitment to serve our country in fighting for our freedom, both domestic & abroad. We paid special tribute to and mourned with our Gold Star Families, who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. What an honor and privilege to sing for them. I had the special honor of singing to and for fellow Kama’aina, Vietnam War Veteran and Gold Star Father Sergeant Allen Hoe and his living son Sergeant Nakoa Hoe, as we remembered their fallen son/brother, Army 1st Lieutenant Nainoa Hoe. It was a very emotional evening for us all. Thank you again, everyone. @fogelsean, @michaelcarney @dustinflores and SAMMY RATELLE I really could not have done the weekend without you! Fashion Direction by @sammyratelle Hair and Make-Up by @alipohanka Wearing @bibhumohapatra Fine Jewelry by @andreolifinejewelry Special thank you to @zarazaman for extra care and guidance, and to @kahulalea for the gorgeous Keala Quilt Hawai’i inspired gold dress~

One of the joys of working with a top notch company like the one assembled by @fogelsean, @michaelcarney & Michael Colbert (but I couldn’t @ him; I don’t think he’s on IG) is that they literally collect people from across our country(!) so we can play together & enrich one another – and I’m THRILLED that they’ve included 💛BROADWAY (& BROADWASIANS 🤩) to join in 🤩 Here are some BtS by @slovekinpics (Steven Lovekin!) of @wongbd – @patinamiller – @cynthiaerivo – @bryancranston & I loving on each other. I’ll commentate on what’s happening. —Planted in between & soaking in the rays of two of my Queens. —We pulled B.D. in to join us —Cynthia just finished a solo while I went on deck to prep for mine. She was walking down the ramp as I walked up. Perfect timing to snag a little #ALittleNightMusic photo. (I. Can’t. Wait. To. Hear. Her. Sing. MILLER’S SON!!!!) —I don’t know how I got so lucky to have these two voices singing in my earholes for the finale. We took this immediately after saying Goodnight America. —I. Did. Not. Know. Bryan. Cranston. SANG. I tried to give him my mic to hold in the finale, but settled for holding it by his shoulder. What a lovely baribass!!!! —Here’s me grabbing BD by the face to let him know how much I’ve admired his presence and command in our industry, his humor and heart, and his fight for representation and inclusion. (If I grab you by the face it’s because I love you. So take it personally.) —Did you know there is an Ice Box (which is exactly what that sounds like) for the sweaty or melty folks on the hot summer evening stage?! How considerate! I took a step in for a few moments to say I’d done it. (I did it!) —There was an after-ceremony ceremony & party where I was asked to sing God Bless America a capella. I really should have thought about the higher end of the melodic scale (I didn’t.) But once I started I had to go with it, up in the stratosphere.. I asked the audience to sing along with me – knowing that it was in a MUCH HIGHER KEY than they had sang it at the Memorial Day Celebration 😅 Y’all were good sports – and the acoustics were terrific! We sounded great! (Thank you Jorge @joegeacevedo for the capture!)
