As we enter fight week, I have a few things that I feel need a mention.
First of all. This has been a long process, a process I never thought we would do again. I remember my surgeon, Steve, wheeling me in to surgery and him saying “this is it Shannon, you’re not fighting again after this” I was crying but agreed.
I was going in for my third major shoulder surgery in 14 months with it being replacement surgery two days before my 40th birthday. Surgery that most wouldn’t need until their 80’s 🫣
I had lived and trained through so much pain in 2022 that I probably shouldn’t have but prior to my first surgery late 2021, I had positioned myself to finally fulfil my career long dream so I wasn’t going to just give up on it.
I didn’t get the win but was the pain worth it, YES, because dealing with all the adversity, made me a better, more resilient person inside and outside of the ring.
Only the people close to me really know what I went through. Coop, Gareth, Shara and Glen, I can’t thank you enough for sticking by me and having my back regardless. I’m sure none of you wanted me to fight again but here we are, as a team that back each other !
This past year I tried to turn my focus to training people and it wasn’t until later last year that my hunger took over again after just some random training here and there that turned into sparring sessions and from there the next chapter begins 💁🏼♀️
I have come so far with dealing with the demons of my childhood. I have changed my life to give my own children a safe, stable life and to show them that anything is possible. I might not have won every boxing fight I’ve been in but I can proudly say that every fight camp I’ve been through or fight I’ve been in, I’ve won a piece of me back and after all the years of punishment and self harm (through training) I like the person I have become and I am proud of myself ❤️
