Jennie Jacques Instagram - Since posting this #tbt I have read & reviewed 📚nearly 30 books which equates to over a story a month, I think? Reading is powerful for several reasons & I hope to inspire those who can to #readmorebooks - when I think of books I touch my shelf 😂 🤓 If reading isn’t an option for you then perhaps check out audio versions. The “script” & “lyrics” will always be the heart & soul ♥️

Jennie Jacques Instagram - My 2nd #lesleypearse book, recommended by Nana, again! Abduction, murder, trickery, rape & taking advantage of people at their most vulnerable haunt the narrative. Pre-warning it’s explicit, sexually, at various times too - this doesn’t dominate the narrative (at all) but was a bit of a shock. Aside from the obvious “darker” concepts this story is also weighted with great friendships, loyalty & (surprisingly) romance & love! So in the end, it all balances out. Far-fetched but enticing; A beautiful young girl (Lotte) is found by a rather handsome stranger (David) washed up on the beach, half-drowned - I wondered if he was something to do with it. But the plot isn’t that obvious. It is confirmed she’s recently given birth but there’s no sign of the baby and to top it off she’s lost her memory! Luckily, Lotte is imminently identified by her close friends & family - thankfully she’s not so far from home. Sadly, her parents are undeniably cold & unsupportive given the traumatic circumstances (there’s history, explained, as to why) but people like her best friend Dale, are solid & there for her. As it goes, Dale is the next victim to be abducted with Lotte (yep, a double kidnapping, 2nd time around!) not many days after poor Lotte’s been found. This is a story about survival. The couple responsible for the terror are sanctimonious sick bastards - that’s me being kind. I’m not gonna tell you the ins & outs of the duo “whodunnit” because you can give it a read! But a backstory of corruption & adoption fraud unfolds! It is a strong 3.8/5 from me - 💯 held my attention & I found it easy to care for the characters. However, it did become a bit too absurd for believability towards the end. I know, I know, it’s fiction! And the absurdity is probably why I kept turning the pages, so maybe I’m hypercritical to knock some points off 😂 😂 Anyway, my Nan ONLY reads Lesley Pearse & we all know Nan’s know best. SWIPE for my purposely “washed out” pics (to match) when #stolen got stolen by my #cheekychocolatelab & ripped up! Yes, I bought another copy to finish off the story & yes I’ll return the new copy to my Nan 😆 🐕 #bookstagram #reading #readersofinstagram #bookreview

📚
Fictional; teenagers killing each other, for entertainment sake. Wee bit of debate, online, re how old the reader should be 😬 Extraordinarily well-written. The characters have depth (even the ones who ain’t gonna last long) & the survivors are cleverly crafted with enticing potential for growth. I finished the last chapter shortly after closing David Nott’s War Doctor, so could’ve been slightly desensitised to how gory it was towards the end of The Hunger Games; a subconscious comparison. But, what stood out to me, more than bloodshed, was the complex love-story between Tributes, Peeta & Katniss, alongside the sheer devotion our strong female lead (Katniss Evergreen) has for her lil sister, Prim. Not to mention her loyalty to both family & friends. I love that Katniss actions a big “F you” to the corrupt system steering the wheel of fate. A brief synopsis is there’s a world split into 12 districts. Each district has its “role” to play in society which bleeds into the themes of class & social status. Annually, 2 “tributes” are (randomly) selected to take part in a reality tv show called “The Hunger Games” where the contestants ultimately fight for their lives. There are plenty of added twists & turns. Some of the chosen are young & naive, while others are older, wiser and/or have more of a physical advantage as their edge. The inequality & unjust distribution of resources is rife. Starvation, poverty & (once again) irrational human behaviour drives the narrative. It’s evident where the influence & insight for such astute writing, though imaginary, has come from... Suzanne Collins (the writer) father (Lieutenant Michael John Collins) was a US Air Force officer who served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. The Hunger Games is actually interactive, so the audience can pay to send gifts in for their favourite ones, which could ultimately save (or kill) a life - The Capitol (the rich) therefore exacerbate motive & manipulation. It’s harsh & extreme, but it appeals vastly to the dark appetite of the viewers - especially those who have more money than sense. I look forward to reading the next book in this trilogy! 💥 5/5

Jennie Jacques Instagram - Several lives, characters & subplots - meticulously intertwined. Loved it! Written over a week, 7days leading up to Easter; Re-birth & “a new beginning” judiciously end this novel. Women’s fiction & a well-written thriller ♥️ I highly recommend!
*
Arguably confusing at the start to ya getting your head around all the different characters/stories that are set to crossover, but bear with it, because it soon flows. Cecilia (mum of 3 girls & Tupperware selling business woman!) finds a letter in her loft. It’s from her Husband & says to open when he’s dead. He ain’t dead. Pandora’s box 📦 ♥️ would you open it?! The letter holds a confession which directly bleeds into the life of another central character & in doing so has a knock on affect, seeping into the world of more people you’ll be introduced to.
*
Feminine curiosity, secrets, guilt, coming of age, sex, identity crisis, murder, justice & letting go of the past. Choices & fate are also themes at the heart of this.
*
There are colourful dramas & tragedies seemingly all going on all at once - Tess, for example, returns to the area with her young son, because her husband (back home) has fallen in love with her cousin, Felicity. Tess ends up shagging the hot PE teacher 😂 Simultaneously you have the receptionist, Rachel, 60’s, who’s young daughter was murdered many years ago, adamant the PE teacher did it...
*
Set in a small community in Australia, modern day, the writer weaves in historical references to The Berlin Wall. And dips back & forth into the 80’s & 90’s when recalling certain memories. It’ll all make sense/tie up - give it a read! I probably need to read it a 2nd time to absorb/appreciate the genius of it to be honest. There are small details & clever nuances which should not be overlooked.
*
A strong 4.5/5 💥 #bookstagram #bookreview #secret #thehusbandssecret #readersofinstagram #australia #lianemoriartybooks

Jennie Jacques Instagram - Throwing it back to @thetimes interview with father of Maeve Boothby, Sean O’Neill. Why? Because we need to drive it home that this illness can happen to anyone… & more often than not the 10-12% who do not recover like the rest from viral infection are extremely hard working ambitious individuals with a real zest for life; it is heartbreakingly 💔 neglected

Thank you @sunflowerlanyardscheme for representing #mecfs #myalgicencephalomyelitisawareness

I am not able to get out half as much as used too, but when I can it’s a real blessing to wear the #sunflowerlanyard which indicates I have a disability. Sometimes I need to sit (or lay down) and often I need to elevate my legs. By wearing this 🌻 people understand I might need some assistance 😊 and/or the symbol stops a person from approaching to try to prevent me from putting my feet up on an extra chair 🪑 💥 which is nice 👌
*
I read recently the sunflower is not regarded as a single flower but a bunch of flowers! I think that is a beautiful concept for us all coming together to stand strong 💪

Reading is like a sharpener for your mind - ya mind being the pencil ✏️ 💥
In the same way you might try to eat healthy & go to the gym for your body, please don’t ignore this medicine - if you are able to read more books 📚 do it - then do it again… some people are not well enough to read books &/or may require help to read for many reasons… could be sight, might be having never been taught properly - it’s a luxury to pick up a book 📖 so please appreciate & nurture it, if the gift 🎁 exists within reach for you! Give it a go…

I used to devour scripts weekly but in my 5th year with the illness ME/CFS (despite significant improvement 🍀 😜 ) acting 🎭 for now is on hold! People ask if I miss it? No, not particularly. I miss running 🏃‍♀️ around a park more. Or swimming miles in the peace of the open water 💦 ❤️
*
Rather than dwell on what I can not do physically, I read most days & more recently started writing - with a VERY sharp 👌 ducking pencil 😂 🦆 Reading can be a life saver…
*
Those with #severeme are often left in the dark unable to do anything #millionsmissing - reading or listening to audio is often out of reach…
I am extremely lucky to be seeing the steps towards recovery ❤️‍🩹 that I’m experiencing & if it continues
I will fight hard for those who do not & cannot get better.
*
I don’t know if it’s just sheer good fortune & timing which is helping me slowly but surely function again - &/or if it’s been helped somewhat by some of the research & meds that I’m on/have been on; inclusive of #hbot - but I’ll be writing 🖋️ an article to share my journey in case it could help anyone else #longcovid #mecfs - ultimately it’s the science 🧪 🧬 behind “post” viral illness that needs funding! @polybiorf is one which you could donate £ if you’re in a position to help out 😊 otherwise just be kind & understanding if you know any person with this horrific condition #lymedisease #ebv #longcovidawareness #me #chronicillness #pots #dysautonomia

Author & psychotherapist Barbara Robb founded AEGIS (Aid for the Elderly in Government Institutions) a 🇬🇧 pressure group insistent on better care for our elderly; also the name of the goatskin shield 🛡️ of Zeus in Greek Mythology #protectelders 💥AEGIS published 📖 Sans Everything - A CASE TO ANSWER; a must-read & yet so difficult to get hold of.
A collection of horrific events & circumstances from real people who received inadequate & inhumane treatment in hospitals in the 60’s - I pause; this controversial book was compiled in the 1967 & I am sad to contemplate that we have many similar issues left on repeat 🔁 2023. The focus here is in the ignorance of modern psychiatric & geriatric treatment & care, with out negating the fact that the staff can often be in “crisis-mode” dealing with more work than workload; but when kindness, manners & compassion disappear, Robb does not sympathise with excuses. Whistleblowers are condemned & accused of exaggeration. I wish ❤️ 1/2 these statements were guilty of hyperbole; they are not! Discrediting evidence, falsely, is a dangerous “go to” strategy. Robb meticulously lists the abuse, highlighting how “turning a blind eye 👁️” is the norm. Surprise visits reveal surprising facts & the thieves/perpetrators & “carers” are caught out.
Many will be aware of the selflessness & “patience of a saint” associated with being a “good” nurse/carer, but one rotten apple 🍎 in the barrel is minacious & evidence over the years proves there’s often more than one preying on the vulnerable. Robb’s obituary reads: "Fearless champion of the cause of old people in hospitals." Robb's legacy was significant: as Abel-Smith said in 1990, "For one woman [...] to suddenly do so much in such a short period – and tragically, to die so soon – is a remarkable story."

Jennie Jacques Instagram - Throwing a blue 📖 teaparty 🎉 to join in with the fabulous @teapartyform.e #bluesunday2023
*I did not drink the whiskey 🥃 but it had #vikings on it so thought I’d feature 😂 @historyvikings Queen Judy prob had a nightcap in the palace?!
*
Despite some difficult years 😰 I am lucky 🍀 (& beyond grateful) to be seeing improvement/consistency with my health! Still a shadow of my former self but in my 5th year I’m able to do more with better consistency than I once was.
*
Even at its mildest this illness can be extraordinarily limiting… & for some people it’s severe & constant #millionsmissing
*
What can WE do to help?
^
Well? Today… you can click the link in my bio & make a donation via @teapartyform.e website to one of the charities! The idea of #bluesunday is to donate what you’d pay for a tea/coffee & some cake at a cafe ☕️ but actually have it at home, wear something blue & tag 🏷️ to share!
*
I am wearing my @themirandashop @realmirandahart PJ’s #imustcocoon & drinking from my @sassandbelle tea cup 😊 & my blue microwaveable neck & shoulder wrap #snugasabug

As heartbreaking as it is heartwarming; there’s ya warning! ❤️ 💔 ❤️‍🩹 A true story…
*
Medically retired marine, Rob Kuger (early 30’s) navigates the “ups & downs” of life with his co-pilot, Bella; beautiful chocolate Labrador 🧡 #coppereyes -
*
No easy way to say it, Bella has #cancer & is predicted only a few months to live. With a mesmerising zest for life Bella graciously proves the forecast wrong but sadly not the prognosis.

🐶 🧭 🗺️ 🚘

Rob takes Bella on a final impromptu road trip (of a lifetime!) & they travel across the USA 🇺🇸 coast to coast, in Ruthie - making memories & meeting some amazing people! Ruthie is the name of the 4Runner 🛻 💥 😉 & this book 📖 sparkles with their adventures!
*
Kuger opens up candidly about the loss of two of his siblings. His brother Mike & his sister Charity. Also, his Grandma. The concept of loss propels this tale with quite a viscous velocity, but the fuel ⛽️ powering the duo from a-b is love. Kuger mindfully acknowledges all he gains despite everything 💞
*
This is a story about quality of life, mental & physical health, suicide, finding one’s happiness & in the long run, finding home 🏡 #doglover #labrador #petportraitartist @felicityfranksportraits

Jennie Jacques - 27.2K Likes - Since posting this #tbt I have read & reviewed 📚nearly 30 books which equates to over a story a month, I think? Reading is powerful for several reasons & I hope to inspire those who can to #readmorebooks - when I think of books I touch my shelf 😂 🤓 If reading isn’t an option for you then perhaps check out audio versions. The “script” & “lyrics” will always be the heart & soul ♥️

Jennie Jacques - 3.5K Likes - My 2nd #lesleypearse book, recommended by Nana, again!

Jennie Jacques - 2.6K Likes - Several lives, characters & subplots - meticulously intertwined.

Caption : Several lives, characters & subplots – meticulously intertwined. Loved it! Written over a week, 7days leading up to Easter; Re-birth & “a new beginning” judiciously end this novel. Women’s fiction & a well-written thriller ♥️ I highly recommend! * Arguably confusing at the start to ya getting your head around all the different characters/stories that are set to crossover, but bear with it, because it soon flows. * Feminine curiosity, secrets, guilt, coming of age, sex, identity crisis, murder, justice & letting go of the past. Choices & fate are also themes at the heart of this. * There are colourful dramas & tragedies seemingly all going on all at once – Tess, for example, returns to the area with her young son, because her husband (back home) has fallen in love with her cousin, Felicity. Tess ends up shagging the hot PE teacher 😂 Simultaneously you have the receptionist, Rachel, 60’s, who’s young daughter was murdered many years ago, adamant the PE teacher did it… * Set in a small community in Australia, modern day, the writer weaves in historical references to The Berlin Wall. And dips back & forth into the 80’s & 90’s when recalling certain memories. It’ll all make sense/tie up – give it a read! I probably need to read it a 2nd time to absorb/appreciate the genius of it to be honest. There are small details & clever nuances which should not be overlooked. * A strong 4.5/5 💥 #bookstagram #bookreview #secret #thehusbandssecret #readersofinstagram #australia #lianemoriartybooks

Rather than dwell on what I can not do physically, I read most days & more recently started writing - with a VERY sharp 👌 ducking pencil 😂 🦆 Reading can be a life saver…

*I did not drink the whiskey 🥃 but it had #vikings on it so thought I’d feature 😂 @historyvikings Queen Judy prob had a nightcap in the palace?!

Despite some difficult years 😰 I am lucky 🍀 (& beyond grateful) to be seeing improvement/consistency with my health! Still a shadow of my former self but in my 5th year I’m able to do more with better consistency than I once was.

Even at its mildest this illness can be extraordinarily limiting… & for some people it’s severe & constant #millionsmissing

What can WE do to help?
