How do you completely transform when you only have a few days to transition from Reacher to your next role in period action piece extraordinaire, #MotorCity? You bring out the big guns. @thomasdelauer to help me drop weight fast. The one-of-a-kind Sandy Sokolowski for new hair. And the great Gary Archer ( teeth_by_archer ) for a less pearly set of pearly whites. And of course @katvonpire on some new character specific tats. The old remove 🙂 My goal is always to make a character as real for you as humanely possible. Not having days off between jobs makes it hard to go as far as I want, but I’ll get as close to unrecognizable as possible. I refuse to play myself. You’ve never experienced anything like Motor City.
For some reason the most talented tattoo artist in Toronto, @pashainktattoo, out of the most talented shop @lamanigancetattootoronto wanted to help me with an idea. This first one took 13 hours. Pasha’s a beast so he finished it in one sitting. He was gobsmacked as I had to order food 27 times. I marveled at how he only had like, a burger. We don’t understand each other but there’s respect there. It’s a dove, which is my oldest son’s namesake. It implies peace. I have three boys, so more to come. This strike goes on much longer we’re gonna be looking at face tattoos. That’s a promise and a threat.

The lotus is a symbol of purity. Its colorful blossoms erupt from the mud like an insatiable spark of hope. A welcome reminder that life isn’t just possible in the muck and mire, it can thrive there. Flowers grow in the silt. My wife, @catritchson ‘s name means ‘pure.’ And that she is – to an inspiring degree. As I’ve endeavored to find images that reflect the namesakes of my boys, some have asked about a tattoo for Cat. This is her image. She’s the flower, I’m undoubtedly the mud. Lastly, as a spiritually minded person, the most ravagingly dark moments of my life are when I’ve felt God shouting the loudest. The lotus reminds me of the many forms mercy and grace have taken and the many ways they’ve given birth to hope in my small corner of the universe. Much thanks to @alices_tattoo for sharing her art with me again.
