Cory Booker Instagram – 59 years ago today thousands of brave Americans began a long march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. It was the activists’ second attempt; a few weeks earlier, the marchers, led by the late John Lewis, were met at the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma by a blockade of state troopers who attacked them with billy clubs and tear gas when they refused to disperse.
On March 21, 1965, the marchers set out again. They would walk for five days before reaching the state capitol.
