20 years ago to this very day, our movie came out in UK cinemas and changed my life forever. Eternal thanks go to everyone who helped make it and everyone who saw it and made it a hit. But, wait there’s MORE! Do YOU want to see Shaun kick some zombie ass again?! Then behold, #ShaunoftheDead will return to the big screen later this year, remastered in Dolby Vision and Atmos where available, to celebrate its 20th anniversary! More info on release dates to come! We’ll see you at the Winchester for a nice cold pint x (NB – Thanks to @leojt, @npark1906 and @londonfilmads for these scans of the print ads and magazine covers. These ads made the film’s release feel REAL to me. I’ve never forgotten the thrill of seeing them. And the final photo is my big brother’s script cover illustration. Happy 20th Shaun xx) @UniversalPicturesUK @StudioCanal.FR @FocusFeatures @dolbylabs

I think there’s been a clerical error, but I am hearing, just for the first time, that it’s my birthday today and apparently I’m 50. It must be a typo. Thanks for all your birthday messages, videos (thank you @simonpegg), songs (thank you @friedgold), art and everything else. It means a great deal to me. To everyone who has been there for me and supported me through thick and thin, I love you very much. I feel lucky to be on this Earth with you all. (Photo by @richiestarzec x)
On the 29th of March 2004, it was the UK premiere in Leicester Square of ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ at the Warner West End. The actual 20th anniversary release date is in a few weeks time, but this unveiling was a magical night for so many reasons: my first ever premiere, the first major screening of the finished film, a genuinely great after-party (they aren’t always), and a gathering of nearest and dearest there to support our little zombie movie that could. It was also the night when the seed was sown for future ice-cream-centric films. On the way out of the premiere party at the (no longer there) Atlantic Bar, we were given free Strawberry Cornettos. I was so bowled over by the gift of free ice cream that we later resolved to put Cornettos into ‘Hot Fuzz’ as a ruse to get more*. I’ll have more to say on how this film changed my life when it’s the anniversary proper, and maybe there will be some news 👀, but for now… LOOK AT HOW YOUNG WE ALL ARE XX (*We didn’t get free ice cream at the Hot Fuzz premiere. What a rip-off!) #shaunofthedead

Get milk. Ring Mum. Avoid Zombies (again). RIP to the truly great Donald Sutherland, a favourite actor and an always fascinating screen presence. He starred in two of my very favourite and most influential films – ‘Don’t Look Now’ and the 1978 ‘Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers’. But that is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of his legendary filmography. He was a funny, laconic, but also intense and dramatic presence in so many memorable movies, starting with his break-through in ‘The Dirty Dozen’, and then on an incredible run in the 70’s, 80’s and beyond with ‘M*A*S*H’, ‘Kelly’s Heroes’, ‘Little Murders’, ‘Klute’, ‘The Day Of The Locust’, ‘National Lampoon’s Animal House’, ‘Ordinary People’ and ‘JFK’, among many others. I even adore his very early appearances in ‘Dr Terror’s House Of Horrors’ and ‘The World Ten Times Over’, as well as his very silly cameo in ‘Kentucky Fried Movie’. I know many of you following me will feel the same way about this great screen legend’s passing, so please list your favourite Donald Sutherland films. So sorry to see you go Donald, but what a legacy you leave behind.

What a blast at @glastofest this year, doing Q&As for ‘Baby Driver’ and ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ with one @simonpegg. Such a hoot to celebrate 20 years of ‘Shaun’ with an amazing crowd at the fantastic @piltonpalais. Had an incredible time at the festival, as ever. Thanks to all who came and to @heleno84 for moderating. 📷 by @andyforduk and @laura__precious.

Alex Garland’s urgent and intense #CivilWar grabs you by the throat and forces you to watch. A vivid near-future shock shot through a very subjective lens, I saw shades of Gillo Pontecorvo’s immediacy laced with John Carpenter’s sly satire. See it large and loud. It’s powder keg cinema.
Sure, the 20th anniversary of ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ was a week ago, but – who cares – here’s two new interviews to commemorate this zombie milestone that you should read. 1 – An in-depth interview over at @indiewire on the making of ‘Shaun Of The Dead’, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, with contributions from @simonpegg, @friedgold, @ashfieldkate, @the_dylan_moran, @reallucydavis, Dame Penelope Wilton and yours truly. 2 – A chat with Simon, Nick and me about 20 years of ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ for @britishgq. You will enjoy both! Links in bio. And if you want to know the WHOLE story, I really recommend @ClarkCollis book ‘You’ve Got Red On You’, which shows all the struggles of getting this (or any) film to the screen.

Don’t miss this insane show by @_billoneill at the @sohotheatre. I just saw it for the second time last night and it’s one of the most deranged one (two) man shows I have ever seen. Will this daredevil slip on 1000 banana skins in an hour? Well… go along and find out. You will enjoy x
