Edgar Wright Instagram – On the 29th of March 2004, it was the UK premiere in Leicester Square of ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ at the Warner West End. The actual 20th anniversary release date is in a few weeks time, but this unveiling was a magical night for so many reasons: my first ever premiere, the first major screening of the finished film, a genuinely great after-party (they aren’t always), and a gathering of nearest and dearest there to support our little zombie movie that could.
It was also the night when the seed was sown for future ice-cream-centric films. On the way out of the premiere party at the (no longer there) Atlantic Bar, we were given free Strawberry Cornettos. I was so bowled over by the gift of free ice cream that we later resolved to put Cornettos into ‘Hot Fuzz’ as a ruse to get more*.
I’ll have more to say on how this film changed my life when it’s the anniversary proper, and maybe there will be some news 👀, but for now… LOOK AT HOW YOUNG WE ALL ARE XX
(*We didn’t get free ice cream at the Hot Fuzz premiere. What a rip-off!)
