Gustavo Santaolalla Instagram – This upcoming Tuesday, June 25th, at the TLC Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, the premiere of “Norita”, the documentary about the life of Nora Cortiñas, will take place.
Participating in this project has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Nora Cortiñas, one of the founders and key figures of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo (Founding Line), was a wonderful and absolutely unique person. Someone who turned the unimaginable pain of losing a son at the hands of the military dictatorship into an unrelenting quest for truth and justice, facing the perpetrators of the systematic kidnapping, torture, and murder that led to the disappearance of thousands of people.
The vision of Jayson McNamara and Andrea Carbonatto Tortonese, the directors of the film, sharply captures Nora’s life, highlighting her unwavering commitment to memory, truth, and justice, as well as the traits of her personality that made Norita the wonderful person so many of us had the privilege of knowing.
This project gave me the opportunity to collaborate with Juan Luqui, Paco Cabral, and Matías Tozzola, three talented young composers who added their creativity to the story.
In a global situation of polarization where divisive, violent, and authoritarian narratives seem to have spread like a pandemic, a moment when we are once again seeing situations in our country that we thought we would never have to face again, “Norita” is not just a film about the life of an extraordinary person who supported each of her actions with love and inexhaustible resilience, “Norita” is a necessary document that warns us of what can happen when democracy and freedom are at risk.
Unfortunately, Nora Cortiñas is no longer with us as we always knew her. However, Nora lives and will live forever in every struggle for human rights, in every slogan, in every conscience of a good person working for a more just world, and we hope that her legacy will also continue with “Norita.”
