Jack Carr Instagram – On July 7, 2005, three men left Leeds in the UK and traveled to Luton where they were joined by a fourth. These four men made their way to King’s Cross Station in London where three boarded trains traveling east, west, and south. The fourth man exited the station. Twenty minutes later, within the span of less than sixty seconds, three bombs exploded killing 39 people, including the bombers, on trains of the London Underground. An hour later, the fourth man detonated his suicide bomb on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square killing 13 people. 52 people were killed and over 700 people were injured in what was the UK’s deadliest terrorist attack since Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988.

The London bombings of July 2005 came not quite four years after 9/11 – the enemy had adapted. Rather than moving terrorists into the targeted country, they brought a UK citizen out of the UK for training. This man then returned to recruit and train a terrorist cell consisting of British nationals inside the UK, planning and building their bombs outside the targeted city.

The enemy is always adapting…

The 7/7 terrorists drew inspiration from a source beyond the borders of the UK. They watched sermons of Yemeni-American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki on DVD as they built their bombs. Al-Awlaki was killed in a drone strike on 30 September 2011.
