I have always made fun of local news anchors and I will continue to make fun of local news anchors, but there was a sincere joy in the work that Sam Rubin did. He was funny, and if he wasn’t genuinely curious, then he acted it better than most. He had a fake laugh (necessary in his line of work) that sounded very sincere, but when he had a sincere laugh, it was unmistakable, and it felt incredible. Getting interviewed by him a couple of times was an absolute feather in my cap and LA is less fun without him. May his memory be a blessing.

I recognize that people are very, very sick of two-party politics, and I encourage voting for third parties in smaller races – state assembly. House of Representatives. Definitely city council. But this is the presidency we’re talking about, and while I share your frustrations with Joe Biden, a second Trump administration would be disastrous for the environment. One of my favorite pieces of public art in Los Angeles… The statue of Chiune Sugihara in Little Tokyo. There’s some talk that his accomplishments have been exaggerated, but he still did a great deal of good, and this monument contains the Talmud quote that reads “he who saves one life saves the entire world.”. From the Jerusalem Post: “Sugihara was stationed as a diplomat in Lithuania until all foreign diplomats were requested to leave in the summer of 1940. In the haste to return to Japan, and the impending Holocaust, Sugihara issued visas to the Jewish refugees; it is thought that tens of thousands of Jews are alive today because of his quick action. “It is estimated that 40,000 people are living today because of Sugihara. I am also a survivor. Another kind of survivor. I am alive today because my grandparents were saved during the Holocaust and I am alive today because of people who stood up to the darkness,” said executive director of Combat Anti-Semitism Sacha Roytman Dratwa.” #yomhashoah
