As Chief Justice, Dr Yong transformed our judicial system. He modernised court processes and championed the use of technology. Dr Yong also believed strongly in nurturing people. The Justices’ Law Clerks (JLC) programme, which he introduced, has continued to build a strong pool of talent in the legal profession.
Dr Yong’s illustrious career spanned many key institutions. He was the first Managing Director of Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC), and later became Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
Dr Yong had a reputation of being a stern judge, but outside the courtroom he was a personable and warm mentor who earned the respect of the people who he had worked with. I hope this book will help Singaporeans to remember Dr Yong, and his remarkable life. – LHL
