Rashad Evans Instagram – 🕊️ 27 years ago today, my Dad passed away suddenly from a heart attack. I was just 17 at the time, and he was around the age I am now (44). I’ll never forget that moment—I was at a football camp at Syracuse University when I received the devastating news.
Losing my father left a huge void in my heart, and I struggled with conflicting emotions about him. But amidst the turmoil, I found motivation in sports by transmuting my negative feelings into positive. That motivation became my drive for success. However, despite my achievements, I carried lingering harsh feelings that led to self-destructive behavior and mistakes that hurt those I love.
Over the years, I’ve learned to forgive my dad. I’ve come to realize that even in his physical absence, he continues to guide my steps. I’ve walked in his footsteps, made similar mistakes, and through that journey, I’ve gained a perspective on my father that I never expected.
As I grow older, my father’s lessons continue to shape my life, and I’m filled with gratitude for the man who has helped mold me into who I am today. Rest In Peace, Dad.
