A true story of life in the former Soviet Union following the tragedy of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. Nearly 200 kilometers downwind from the maimed nuclear plant, the tiny village of Budische was evacuated except for 55 elderly residents and one young man, Alexei, who wished to stay with his family. “Alexei and the Spring” is a simple story of life in Budische 14 years later, as told in voiceover by Alexei. Central to Budische’s survival is its fabled spring, the waters of which are miraculously free of radiation.
