There’s so much pressure to feel happy and put on a joyful face at Christmas. But it’s not the most wonderful time of year for everyone. Especially those of us struggling with our mental health. We’re here for everyone who needs us, providing a safe space to share, listen and be heard. Supporting us this year will help keep our vital services running, like our Infoline and online peer support community, Side by Side.
What a day. Can’t believe I only arrived here in Kyiv 12 hours ago: since then I’ve watched a surgical operation on a wounded soldier (the air raid siren sounded in the theatre but no one paid attention, there was a patient to be cared for). Next I met two young men who laughed as they teased each other about the differences between their new prosthetic legs. Then I talked to a young woman who lost her husband on the Russian front only two weeks ago. They all had in common extraordinary humour as well as a profound unshakeable determination to see off the barbarians at the gate and keep their independence and sovereignty. War can bring out the worst in people, but sometimes the very best …
One for the biblical scholars amongst you. Anyway, I’m on LOT, the Polish airline, headed east on an exciting (for me at least) adventure. The President’s Office in Ukraine asked if I might undertake hosting duties for a summit on mental health being held in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital. I’m on my way there now by various means that I shan’t elaborate on. A great honour to be asked and, in my view, holding such a summit reflects extraordinarily well on the openness, as well as the good sense, of the Ukrainian government. Not a propaganda stunt at all, but a real bringing together of neurologists, social scientists, psychology and those working in mental health trauma. More to come as I approach the destination.
When in Barnsley, chew on a Barnsley Chop. When in Bath, nibble a Bath Bun. But I’m in Kyiv, so it has to be Chicken Kyiv…
I should think so too, @rspb – apology definitely needed. Choose your words more carefully next time. You now realise, I hope, that you should have said “gutless, shameless liars. Grubby, ruinous liars. Disastrous and destructive liars.” Amend your website accordingly.
A sleeper car from the Polish border to Kyiv. Arriving there now…
@paddypowerofficial and @OfficialPDC are helping to save men’s lives with @ProstateCancerUK at this year’s World Darts Championship. For every 180 scored at the Ally Pally, Paddy Power are donating £1,000 to Prostate Cancer UK to fund vital research. And they’re also encouraging 180,000 men to check their risk using Prostate Cancer UK’s online risk checker. It’s quick, easy and it could save your life: www.prostatecanceruk.org/180-risk (link also in my bio)

Far too many people aren’t told that they have blood cancer at diagnosis – they end up finding out from google, or sometimes not at all. People with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma, or any of the 100 different types of blood cancer are missing out on being part of this incredible, supportive community. That’s why this Blood Cancer Awareness Month we’re encouraging everyone to #SayBloodCancer and help raise awareness ❤️ Please watch and share this important message from @stephenfryactually and people living with blood cancer. Everything fairly normal, but most British hotel rooms don’t equip you with gas masks…
No one loves and quarrels, desires and deceives as boldly or brilliantly as Greek gods and goddesses. Brought to life through achingly beautiful illustrations by @jesussotes, Mythos: The Illustrated Story is now available to buy in bookshops and via the link in my bio.
Hope you enjoy this @theinventorfilm – stunning animation – not computer generated, but lovingly so rested with stop motion…

can’t believe it’s a year since we lost Bill. His diagnosis came too late for a cure, but in the time he had left, he built a life-saving legacy raising vital awareness of the most common cancer in men- prostate cancer. I was honoured to lend my voice to this this film which is a legacy to Bill’s courage. Please watch and share and check your own risk using @prostatecanceruk’s risk checker today
“It’s hard to be a friend to someone who’s depressed, but it is one of the kindest, noblest, and best things you will ever do.” Thank you @stephenfryactually for being our President for the last 12 years and fighting for mental health. Happy Birthday 🎈 Thank you @floopygoop for this amazing art.

‘I’ll let you know when it’s going in.’ Jon Holmes’ prostate exam tickles Stephen Fry. When Jon was diagnosed with cancer, he realised men don’t talk openly about the embarrassing indignity of it all. So, he decided he would. Jon Holmes Says the C-Word | Listen on BBC Sounds
