Ted Cruz Instagram – It was an honor to attend the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
I had the privilege of meeting Vernon Mitchell of Ft. Worth — his story is one of patriotism, honor, and bravery.
He served our country in the 2nd Infantry Division — and had a distinguished military career.
He earned numerous medals for his service, including France’s prestigious Legion of Honor.
He landed on Omaha Beach on June 7th and continued to fight after most of the beach was cleared.
Mitchell was injured when he was hit with a German artillery shell — and lost two of his best friends in the same explosion.
He recovered and eventually fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
Vernon Mitchell is an embodiment of the Greatest Generation.
