I’ve tried daily to figure out what to say and I just can’t get it right. I am better at conversations in real time. Forgive me if this comes out all wrong. So much of the world is in turmoil, so much tragedy. So much heartbreak. And in other ways, life goes on. I do not know how to carry both truths well. It feels so wrong, living “normally,” side by side with so much tragedy. This dichotomy always exists but my god, it hurts. My family fled war in the Middle East. My middle name is Salam, “peace” in Arabic. My god, how do we find peace?
In this time of pause during the strikes, like so many, I’ve been hungry to create, to be in creative community, to tell a story, to become another character for a bit. While I do enjoy sitting behind my computer writing or producing content for clients, I’m excited to be in the weeds of an original production again. It just hits different. Poets have their notebooks, artists have their sketchbooks. As actors and filmmakers we need community to sketch, experiment, test, play. Under the micro-budget agreement, we’re not affected by the strike. Just a bunch of artists making art. We film next week and I can’t wait. . #indiefilm #indiefilmmaker #womeninfilm #momsinfilm
