Xewali phul is very special to me. It’s not my favorite flower, but it is my Ma’s favorite flower. We used to have a Xewali tree in the house I grew up in, and every day during the Xewali season, my dad would go to the garden first thing in the morning and pick up a fistful of flowers from the grass, holding them carefully to not crush them, and place them on the bedside table next to my mum so she can wake up with it’s fragrance. On days when she is up before him, he’d bring the flowers to her and put his palm in front of her so she could smell them. We lived in that house for about 20 years and every season my mum got Xewali phul. Now they live in an apartment and there’s no Xewali tree. But on days they go for their morning walks, they cross one 🙂

I am always rushing! Finally managed to get ready a tad bit before time and sit and wait to leave. And of course, take this photo. This might be a first (unless someone was late and I had to wait for them). I have time blindness and get easily distracted, making getting anywhere, a rush rush task. Honestly, until someone pointed out I didn’t even realize I was rushing, it’s been my normal. But for a change I decided not to do anything else but to just get ready taking as much time as I want. (Thanks to my injured shoulder I am moving slowly, so I thought I should give myself extra time). I realized how nice it actually feels to not have to rush. To be able to sit for a few minutes and breathe, with everything set, just before stepping out. I thought I would do this everyday. But this was yesterday. I wasn’t feeling particularly happy or excited on this day. I went out for lunch with my people. It was alright, food was good, mood was just okay. And then we decided to loaf around in the mall and just as we got out of the restaurant, I saw a supermarket. I find it amusing how a simple thing like buying some vegetables and kitchen supplies could change my mood and make me feel so excited and happy. I don’t know what it is about grocery shopping that makes me feel so good.
