Ioanna Gika Instagram - Thank you Dior for having me perform the 2022 presentation in the nation of my ancestry, Greece. Words cannot fully describe the feeling of playing the ancient Panathenaic Stadium, where my ancestors tread in this same location, over two thousand years ago. Many thanks to @mariagraziachiuri @dior for her exquisite vision and for transforming me into the Arachne of my dreams, and many thanks to music supervisors @michelgaubert and @theeryanaguilar , who ideated countless hours together, and the wonderful @ollycoates who conducted, played cello and presented his stunning work, as well as @arca1000000 ‘s beautiful compositions. Deep gratitude for the 70 person all Greek orchestra who beautifully delivered my music, Alain and David for their excellent sound, @timothywilliamsofficial for his wonderful arrangements, @chriselmsmusic and @damnitignacio for their diligent teamwork, the hair and makeup team, and thank you @sargenthouse and @marltd for your guidance and the whole team at @bureaubetak 📷 @theeryanaguilar I will be posting more, sharing clips in the days to come, and thanking more wonderful people, but for now: ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ 💙💙💙🏛

A few short months ago I put a song of his on a playlist, not knowing that soon after we would be joining forces. Oliver and the City of Athens Symphony Orchestra @opanda.gr breathed life into my album Thalassa (5 songs of the night, one of which was new!) in a way that moved me very deeply. The order of my songs was Thalassa, a new song, Swan, Messenger, Roseate, as the beautiful creations of @mariagraziachiuri made their way around the stadium. Many thanks to @ollycoates for working with me, conducting, playing the cello with great intuition, and beautifully presenting his material, as well as Arca’s, and to @michelgaubert and @theeryanaguilar for music supervision, and Ryan for the 📷. Ioanna Gika Instagram - 🏛️🪼 Anniversary of playing the Dior show in Greece. It was an absolute honor to perform with the incredible orchestra conducted by the talented Oliver Coates in my country of heritage, and I wanted to share a glimpse of rehearsal footage. The 70 piece City of Athens Symphony Orchestra breathed life into my album in a way that moved me very deeply. Rehearsals took place at the legendary Maria Callas Theater in Athens, and Timothy Williams arranged the pieces with vivacity and speed. Forever grateful to @dior @mariagraziachiuri @racheleregini @michelgaubert @theeryanaguilar @ollycoates @opanda.gr @timothywilliamsofficial @chriselmsmusic and many others for this wonderful experience.

Ioanna Gika Instagram - If you have lost a parent, family member, or loved one and are going through the holiday without them, I just wanted to say that I am with you. I love winter and all its beauty, but this time of year marks the dates of my father's death and my stepfather's death. I feel the inspiring thaumaturgy of winter and also the missing. Here is an owl I saw on this day a couple of years ago. I heard his call first. It felt like a reminder, the melancholy bell of his feathered cathedral. Regal, fixed, tall. Ioanna Gika Instagram - I took this photo of Comet Neowise. Days of looking where sites and apps directed: nothing. Then the faintest tail. (City lights? Halo from contact lenses?) Neowise was ephemeral, but I learned that once I stopped relying on apps to direct me, and let my eyes adjust to the night sky, I was able to spot the unmistakable shimmer of a cosmic brushstroke. As Neowise grew in luminosity, becoming bolder as the sun pulled the curtain of the night, the comet pointed its silvery finger to our planet almost as if to say, ‘Earth, you see me, but make no mistake: in a blaze, I am watching you.’ 20 minutes and it was gone.

Neowise was ephemeral, but I learned that once I stopped relying on apps to direct me, and let my eyes adjust to the night sky, I was able to spot the unmistakable shimmer of a cosmic brushstroke. As Neowise grew in luminosity, becoming bolder as the sun pulled the curtain of the night, the comet pointed its silvery finger to our planet almost as if to say, ‘Earth, you see me, but make no mistake: in a blaze, I am watching you.’ 20 minutes and it was gone.
