Rachel Miner Instagram - After 8 years leading the charge as @RandomActsOrg’s incredible Executive Director, Rachel Miner has decided to step down to start new chapters in her life. She has been a tireless, inspiring, devoted leader of this organization for almost a decade and we couldn’t be more grateful. And while she is stepping down as ED, she is not leaving RA. I am happy to announce that she’s joining our Board of Directors. So, thank you, Rachel — and welcome to the Board! #Repost from @rachelminersgram • Today is my last official day as Random Acts Executive Director. I’m in no way leaving this organization, I will be moving to the Board of Directors as of Oct 1st , but today marks the ending of 8 years of what has been the most life changing and important chapter of my story. I cannot possibly succinctly articulate or do justice to the profound way each and every one of the volunteer staff I’ve worked with across these years or the participants in our acts and projects has forever changed things for the better, in my life certainly, and I believe with my whole heart in the world. To see first hand the profound and genuine compassion of so many, to witness every day the capacity we each have to make existence better for those around us and touch the lives of those near and far…. As I say, I can never find all the right words to encompass the magnitude of feelings I have for this organization or this community, but I promise I will never stop trying!! Also the deepest thank you to @misha and the rest of this dynamic Random Acts Board for entrusting me with this incredibly rewarding role as Executive Director for these years and now championing me in my new phase as Board Member! I love you all in this @randomactsorg family so completely and my gratitude to you is beyond measure! I truly look forward to this next chapter, and can’t wait to see what’s to come in this amazing story!!

Rachel Miner Instagram - July is Disability Pride Month. Here’s what I feel and what I am working to learn, understand, and overcome ( and guess what it’s not my physical disability): My heart and my spirit are no different, they are untethered and wish to connect and be a part of life in the deepest way, but experience has left my brain and body wired to believe that I must fit certain criteria to participate in life. Often when I work to think outside of these constraints and dare to live and thrive in my own way I run up against barriers in the world around me, restrictive opinions or blocks to access that feed into the worst parts of me, all of those negative thoughts which tell me “I can’t “, “I’ll never”, “how stupid of me to try”, so I must recharge on a daily basis and work my way back into life again. It’s the end of one of those long days full of ups and downs, great joys and terrifying uncertainties, and I just want to tell all those out there brave enough to believe, strong enough to forge your own paths and creative enough to envision a life beyond the templates we’ve seen a thousand times before that dreams are possible BECAUSE they break “the rules” and “rules” are simply there to give others the illusion of safety and control. So unbind those wings, fly freely and live fully outside the lines and beyond the boundaries…ask others to draw new ones if they want to play too! Happy #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPride

These days the condition of my body prevents me from seeing any of you in person, and yet I feel so much love for you and for this world. Not much about the shape of daily life matches what I thought it would..and yet there is so much joy and beauty to be found. I only wish I could share it and connect with you more. I like to believe that one day we will and in the meantime always cheering you on in every way I can. Here's what I know- That nothing tastes as sweet if we can't share it. That we can win every game, but the joy will soon fade if others can't do the same. That we were made for each other & this load should never be borne on its own. That I am here with you & you were never alone And should you ever falter Feel separate Lonely Lost momentarily, Please know you are, and always will be A part of this grand story Of this greater we I am always with you As you are irrevocably Eternally A part of Me

There are messages within this piece that resonate so strongly with me I simply want to amplify them. What life asks me to relearn every day, what I hope to pass along, and what this film shows in abundance is that happiness is not contingent upon a given set of parameters or a specific form. That we may find the deepest joy and sense of completeness not because we hit the markers set for us by our conditioning but because we have managed to move beyond to identify and align ourselves with those things which are of value to the truest part of us. At the same time this is often not an easy path when one wishes to bring joy to those around them, because there is an incredible weight and guilt that comes with feeling the worry and sadness and stress that your very existence seems to bring others, there is a deep desire to be able to jump up and dance around and tell others there’s nothing they need worry about, and to hide the truth of one’s experiences. This film captured that for me too, and gave me some relief from that weight, or at least left me feeling less alone in it. I want to share that too. I want others to feel that too. So again thank you @davidholmes83 and I highly recommend this film! (#theboywholived poster, followed by pictures of me and the unicorn I attached to my mobility scooter for years in order that it might reset the standard sad reaction to seeing me- for clearly riding in on a unicorn is something far from sad.)

I know that if that were that the choice I was given I would choose to take the trial on without hesitation… the thought certainly made life feel lighter and anything I am facing more purposeful. How very very lucky I am for every experience, and yet always so deeply aware and centered in the knowledge that so many of us are in pain and suffering through unspeakable trials at every moment, wishing somehow to transmute every bit of joy I manage to touch into actions that lighten the load for others. So many of my feelings summed up more beautifully by others always- “The creation of the world did not take place once and for all time, but takes place every day.” ― Samuel Beckett. “A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. Here’s what I feel and what I am working to learn, understand, and overcome ( and guess what it’s not my physical disability): My heart and my spirit are no different, they are untethered and wish to connect and be a part of life in the deepest way, but experience has left my brain and body wired to believe that I must fit certain criteria to participate in life. Often when I work to think outside of these constraints and dare to live and thrive in my own way I run up against barriers in the world around me, restrictive opinions or blocks to access that feed into the worst parts of me, all of those negative thoughts which tell me “I can’t “, “I’ll never”, “how stupid of me to try”, so I must recharge on a daily basis and work my way back into life again. It’s the end of one of those long days full of ups and downs, great joys and terrifying uncertainties, and I just want to tell all those out there brave enough to believe, strong enough to forge your own paths and creative enough to envision a life beyond the templates we’ve seen a thousand times before that dreams are possible BECAUSE they break “the rules” and “rules” are simply there to give others the illusion of safety and control. So unbind those wings, fly freely and live fully outside the lines and beyond the boundaries…ask others to draw new ones if they want to play too! Happy #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPride
