I just know I lost myself for a minute. Victoria Spence Instagram - One of the best things anybody has ever said to me is, ‘People are going to talk about you anyway, so you might as well give them something to talk about.’ If I hadn't been told that, I would not have been carefree enough to post everything I do here. But deeper than that, one of the biggest things I've realised is that when you're holding yourself back because you're worried what ‘people’ might say, the majority of the time, those ‘people’ are just one critical person in your life or your own inner critic. Most ‘people’ actually want to support you, and speak nice things about you when you're not there. Victoria Spence Instagram - Do you ever consider the amount of brain space that food, dieting, and losing weight/ staying thin take up? When I was knee-deep in diet hood, I’d say it took up 80% of my daily thoughts. If I wasn’t eating food, I was counting it or in my fitness pal calculating what I was allowed to have, or how I could burn off what I’ve eaten, or dreaming about my weekend cheat meal. And that's just the food part. It's exhausting, all-consuming and completely unnecessary. I'm not reckless with food now, like, we buy gousto or Hello Fresh, and I aim to eat some fruit or veg with my meals, and I'm conscious of making sure to have protein, and how much water I’m drinking, but that's as far as my thoughts about food go. I rarely know what I'm going to eat for my next meal, and if options are limited, ill take whatever is on offer. I guess I only know because I've been in diet prison the past, how bloody freeing it is live the way I do now. Now I have 80% more brain space to think about life, and my career and things that help move me forwards and light me up 🫶🏻#dietculture #foodfreedom #relateable

I’m not going to lie; even though I’ve had regular periods and a healthy body for at least seven years now, I worry often about the damage I might have done. & I share this because I know so many girls & women go on a weight loss journey and overlook the loss of their periods and what that means for their bodies beyond not having a monthly bleed. No body type, body fat percentage, or sport is worth developing Amenorrhea. more to that, losing your period due to a ‘body transformation journey’ isn’t an achievement. I’m so thankful to the woman who asked me this question to give me a wake-up call. It was indeed a cannon moment for me, and I hope this post may be a cannon moment for some of you struggling, too.😌 #recovery #healing

Victoria Spence Instagram - Having existential crisis’ one shower at a time✌️🏻 It's easy to paint a picture of somebody's life and predict their happiness or mental well-being based on what we see from the outside or social media. It's easy to spiral in our minds, believing we are the only ones thinking and feeling the way we are while everyone else lives frivolously. I know first-hand, and through my work with everyday people, that EVERYBODY is worrying or doubting themselves about something. EVERYBODY is having a little (or large) internal conflict that nobody knows about. I believe the fastest way to decline your mental health is by tricking yourself into thinking that everyone else has it together and is living a challenge-free life while you're over here with your internal battles. Here are just a few of the thoughts that regularly consume my mind, most of which I've never said out loud and all of which you'd never anticipate me thinking or worrying about from what you know of me externally. Victoria Spence Instagram - I was often told this by more well-spoken people, mainly guest dance teachers from the South. It’s not like I thought I was the most well-spoken kid. I grew up in Salford, and I spoke like I did. If it were a random person, I’d have told them to F off, but I carried those comments because they were people I looked up to in an industry I wanted to excel in at the time. They only started to impact me noticeably when I started this platform, and I began to spend more time in London. I’d be on panels and start to stutter or go completely blank. When we had the podcast, I’d never want to lead or say too much because I didn’t think what I had to say was important, even though I knew my mind was full of ideas people needed to hear. I have conversations and suddenly become aware of myself and how I might sound, stutter, and then feel embarrassed. Or talk quite fast to take up less of people’s time having to listen to me & usually saying things like ‘im stupid’ or ‘im just not very clever’. Honestly, my biggest mask in all of those situations was my appearance. I’d always try to wear great outfits or do my hair and makeup glam so that even if I blanked out or held terrible conversations, I could still be pretty. Sad, but it’s true. I don’t know if it’s with age or what, but it’s definitely something I’m getting better at, especially because I’ve faced my fears so often through holding my workshops and retreats. However, it can still eat me up in an environment I don’t feel entirely comfortable in. My goal is to use my voice more on here (which I’ve already started doing… a bit). I’ve had a project I’ve wanted to get going with for SO long, which would put my fear of using my voice on FULL display, but I know I need to do it. But yeah, we all have our insecurities, most of which nobody knows anything about. We can let them paralyse us and let the people who instilled them win, or we can feel those insecurities and do what we were going to do anyway. For the sake of our one, too short, precious life, please choose the latter.🫶🏻#insecurities

I grew up in Salford, and I spoke like I did. If it were a random person, I’d have told them to F off, but I carried those comments because they were people I looked up to in an industry I wanted to excel in at the time. They only started to impact me noticeably when I started this platform, and I began to spend more time in London. I’d be on panels and start to stutter or go completely blank. When we had the podcast, I’d never want to lead or say too much because I didn’t think what I had to say was important, even though I knew my mind was full of ideas people needed to hear. I have conversations and suddenly become aware of myself and how I might sound, stutter, and then feel embarrassed. Or talk quite fast to take up less of people’s time having to listen to me & usually saying things like ‘im stupid’ or ‘im just not very clever’. Honestly, my biggest mask in all of those situations was my appearance. I’d always try to wear great outfits or do my hair and makeup glam so that even if I blanked out or held terrible conversations, I could still be pretty. Sad, but it’s true. I don’t know if it’s with age or what, but it’s definitely something I’m getting better at, especially because I’ve faced my fears so often through holding my workshops and retreats. However, it can still eat me up in an environment I don’t feel entirely comfortable in. My goal is to use my voice more on here (which I’ve already started doing… a bit). I’ve had a project I’ve wanted to get going with for SO long, which would put my fear of using my voice on FULL display, but I know I need to do it. But yeah, we all have our insecurities, most of which nobody knows anything about. We can let them paralyse us and let the people who instilled them win, or we can feel those insecurities and do what we were going to do anyway.
