John Lennon Instagram – HAPPY XMAS (WAR IS OVER).
Yoko and I wrote it together. It says it: ‘War is over – if you want it.’ Because it was still that same message: the idea that somebody is either going to give us power or [has] taken our power or has made us go to war or not made you go to war. Or the President did this to us.
We are just as responsible as the man who presses the button. It’s that idea of ‘god in the sky’ is a separate thing, you know? It’s all that separation. It’s all the same thing – nationalities, religions, authority – it’s all the same garbage. As long as people imagine that it’s something people are doing to them, they have no control.
The people have the power. We must try an make them aware of this.
You can stop everything by stopping – slowing the whole place down – giving people time to think.
John Lennon Instagram – GIVE PEACE A CHANCE.
I wrote ‘Give Peace a Chance’ because I felt an obligation as an artist to fight something for our generation, and our generation was interested in peace. I wanted them to have a song that was written this century for them to sing; so I sat down and wrote ‘Give Peace a Chance’. And I think in that way, and with Yoko’s help, and both of us promoting peace as we do, almost like a product, that we think we’ve helped get peace into people’s consciousness. Maybe our constituency, maybe the young people, I think we’ve been infiltrated also older minds as well. It is subliminal and sometimes you say something you don’t realise what you’re saying, you don’t even know the importance of what you’re saying until months later.
We don’t even know what this record will mean to people until next year or say two years’ time, then we’ll really know what it meant.
