Releasing this video feels like a moment of divine timing. Of God. I wrote ‘Last Summer’ in August 2022, during a crazy emotional period. After the heartache of a miscarriage, we found out we were expecting again. It was a time of healing, yearning, and unexpected creativity. I was at my parents’ house in Florida with a classical guitar I found at Goodwill, and the lyrics and melodies poured out. Reflecting on our last season as a family of two before welcoming Kilmer Dove, this song is the essence of transition—from the life we knew to the wild adventures awaiting as parents.
Time has looped back on itself, and here we are transformed into a family of three, with the fourth on the way, thriving in Florida’s perpetual summer. My brother @rocco_tortorella came down to visit and we set out to capture this music video for my debut album ‘Born.’ Rocco, your talent in capturing these moments is astounding. This project feels like a mirror to our past and a celebration of our expanding family. On these Atlantic shores where we once envisioned our future, we now stand with a deeper understanding, our lives a testament to the beautiful cycle of renewal. Constantly shifting, evolving, expanding, our journey is a living echo of LAST SUMMER.
I am madly in love with this family we’ve built. Bethany, your strength and ability to hold space is unmatched. Kilmer, you are the reason for it all. And to our baby on the way, you are already loved beyond measure.
