I’ve been spending the entire morning putting this show up on social media, but I wanted to come here and say something personal about it, and I’ll be talking about this show on the patreon quite a bit over the upcoming months as we finally, for the first time in seven years.
Boston.
It’s home, it’s hurt, it’s love, it’s Mother, it’s all the mistakes of my youth, it’s all my dead friends and dead ideas, it’s all my living full circle friends, it’s all the old haunts and it’s allllll the feels.
As we’ve toured through the states for the last two years getting this epic, epic new dolls record (our first since 2008) into shape, we’ve avoided playing Boston for a while. I wanted to come back with my muscled flexed, with my friends around me, with my theater family, with my soul intact. It’s taken this long since I got back from New Zealand to feel **almost fully human** again, and I’m still only about 90% there. But I gotta say, every show we play heals me another fraction of a percentage.
Every time I play one of these new songs, it pulls a comforting blanket and pours medicine on the memories of those ultra-traumatic days in 2020 when my heart was ripped out of my body. I feel I am only starting to understand the deeper, more profound and alchemical ability of my own songs to heal my own self…and I’ve been talking about this sort of alchemy since 2000. But there’s something happening, as I sing these new songs, as I learn what my purpose is, as I learn what my songs are built to do: for me, for other people, for my kid, for my community. There’s not doubt: it’s frightening as hell. But I seem to have no choice in the matter. I seem to be taking dictation from above and below and whatever is coming out, I cherish the sound.
Gogol Bordello are OLD friends of ours from back in our day as foolish, raging punks on the road constantly between Boston and NYC. They’re stayed resonant friends and I AM SO EXCITED TO PLAY WITH THEM openers we chose with help from the community: @ensmb.band & @johnnymanchild.
