To give the Alternative MacTaggart speech tomorrow at the Edinburgh TV Festival where so many of the bosses and producers come together for a few days

After being on the first show ever on Channel 4 – Countdown back in 1982, I’ve worked for all the major channels, made around 9/10,000 shows
After research shows that the TV industry is one of the worst to employ people from a working class background – just 8% – and audiences are dropping through the floor
A quarter of people in the UK now don’t watch broadcast television at all, the disconnect is greater than ever.
At the current rate of loss we could be talking about less than half of people watching broadcast telly by the time of the next election.
So my speech is called
“Television, Snobbery and London”
