Darnell Cox Instagram – 🍽️ Are you following the high-protein diet fad?!

When big food corporations begin adding EXTRA protein to everything from cereal to pasta, you know we are in the middle of another fad diet. 😱

Excess protein is stored as (drum roll please) FAT! That’s right, folks! Muscles are made in the gym, not the kitchen.

In addition, excess protein may impose a metabolic burden on the bones, kidneys, and liver. Moreover, high-protein/high-meat diets may also be associated with increased risk for coronary heart disease.

High protein diets can hinder autophagy (our bodies natural process of cleaning up or restructuring the damaged proteins it ALREADY has.) Autophagy helps to reduce the risk of age-related neurological diseases like:

😔Alzheimer’s Disease
😔Dementia
😔Parkinson’s

Here is the GOOD news: Protein is in everything we eat – from broccoli to bolognese sauce – and it doesn’t take much effort to get Harvard Medical’s & The Mayo Clinic’s RDA of .35g per pound of body weight!

For longevity benefits:👇

➡️65 years or younger, keep protein intake low (0.31 to 0.36 grams per pound of body weight).

➡️Over the age of 65, increase protein slightly.

➡️Athletes and competitive sports (1.0gram per pound of body weight).

Want to reach your fitness goals without an excessively high-protein diet? THERE IS A WAY. 💪
