@loislogansj sent this to our family WhatsApp tonight. Excuse the dressing gown and ugly crying in the film here …..it’s the morning of my 50th birthday (18 months ago) and I was told to wait until I had opened all my presents before I opened this specific card. I was secretly worried @kennylogan11 had bought me a sports car, was this a picture of a fast (midlife cliche) car I didn’t want? But no I was thankfully very wrong, they’d bought me a standard poodle. When I was a kid my family loved poodles, Sadie was our family dog. A chocolate brown standard. But @kennylogan11 @loislogansj and @reuben_logan pushed back whenever I suggested we get one they always said they weren’t ‘real dogs’. So I gave up the campaign and have loved our boxers Sydney and Milo and our labradoodle Maggie. And that was that. But a few months before I turned 50 Lois suggested to Kenny it would be a great surprise present to find me a standard poodle. She did the search and found a litter about to be born near Bath at the right time and then drove with Kenny to see the 3 week old puppies, and then Maverick chose them. Then she had a card made which was a hologram picture of 5 week old Maverick coming out of a gift box. She wrote the most beautiful words inside the card (from all of them). And I was overwhelmed. However it’s totally back fired on them all. Because they are utterly enamoured and in love with the beautiful, clever, big handsome guy. Milo and Maggie are still equally loved and cherished but i guess it’s like having a third child😂, you can always find a bit more love. 🧡 NB – video showing my children laughing their hearts out at my tears should resonate with parents of teenagers. And @christineyorathdesign the original poodle lover finally cuddling one of our dogs after all these years 😂 #poodle #standardpoodle

There’s quite a few of us midpointers preparing for empty nests right now, so I thought I’d do a special episode of The Mid•Point with Kenny, all about how we’re approaching it and what we’ve already learned from our son, Reuben, leaving home a year ago. It’s not all about children and parenting, though; we also discuss favouritism when it comes to the four-legged members of the family, Kenny’s wayward internet shopping, and indulge in a different (distinctly middle aged) kind of pillow talk! Listen in full wherever you get your podcasts, or via the link in my bio.

It’s amazing how London 2012 is the first Olympic memory for so many of the athletes competing here in Paris – they weren’t even 10 years old when Jess Ennis Hill, Chris Hoy, Mo Farah… inspired them to go for their dreams. The same thing is happening right now: Team GB Olympians of the future are watching these guys and being inspired to believe in themselves at the start of an incredible journey. To celebrate this, and to boost that inspiration, I, alongside @youarethestarbooks, am giving away a free personalised Team GB book with every Team GB medal won in Paris. (That’s 40 so far…) Just comment below with your child’s name and their favourite sport for a chance of them winning their very own personalised Team GB souvenir of Paris 2024! YATS.me Team GB Inspire the next generation #dreambelieveachieve
