Home Actress Gloria Steinem HD Instagram Photos and Wallpapers August 2024 Gloria Steinem Instagram - My paternal grandmother, Pauline Perlmutter Steinem, was the first woman to be elected to the Toledo School Board — and perhaps the first Jewish woman elected to any public office in the United States, even before women could vote nationally. She ran on a coalition ticket with the Socialists and the Anarchists, and got elected by organizing women to go to vote together. Women were kept away from the polls by gangs of mens and boys who would harass them if they came to vote. So she organized women to go in a group. But I didn’t know any of this until a feminist historian wrote a monograph about her. What survived as admirable in the family history was that she was a great cook, that she had four sons, that she kept a kosher table, that she was an educator. I didn’t hear about the more rebellious parts. I am thinking of her today, and the work yet to be done.

Gloria Steinem Instagram – Every child in the United States has the right to a free public education. Delivering on that promise – which is enshrined in the Constitution – isn’t possible unless teachers are paid a living wage.

Yet in Arizona, a Republican state legislature has systematically ignored the basic needs of teachers by severely under-funding the state’s education system. Just to survive, teachers are forced to take roommates and second and third jobs – and to march in the streets to make these conditions heard.

Meanwhile, shootings are the leading cause of death for young people in Arizona, yet the state legislature continues to be owned by the gun lobby.

In reality, this moment of economic hardship would be the perfect time to offer a little money to everyone who turns in a gun, and then to melt those guns down into playground equipment or anything that would actually benefit children. Remember, no other democracy in the world worships or allows guns as we do.

Now, Arizona has a chance to become a safer and more livable state because these candidates are running to represent you with empathy, courage, and action.

@coral4az The Mayor of Flagstaff and a third generation Arizonan fighting restore education funding, advocate for small businesses, and empower local communities to drive policy decisions.

@frenchforaz A retired U.S. Army Colonel, medevac helicopter pilot, and registered nurse advocating for government accountability, affordable healthcare, sustainable jobs, and fair wages for educators.

@ajforarizona A naturalized U.S. citizen and small business owner passionate about giving others the same opportunities he received by funding and reforming the public school system, protecting family-owned businesses, and expanding voting rights and health care access.

@captmarkkelly An astronaut, engineer, and former U.S. Navy captain (and husband to the incredible Gabby Giffords) dedicated to women’s rights, veteran protections, and common sense gun laws. He is running to unseat Martha McSally.
Gloria Steinem Instagram – On Sunday, Jacob Blake was attacked by seven police bullets in his back, and this crime was done in front of his children. Yet as I write this, the police officers involved have not been fired or even charged.

On Tuesday, Trump and his enablers chose to stand up and deny, once again, the undeniable reality of racism in this country.

Rebelling against injustice is central to our democracy. Protest is central to our democracy. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
