Imelda May Instagram – I’m so sad to hear of the passing of Vince Power.
I adored him and will be forever grateful to him for giving me a chance when I needed it most when starting out.
He loved music and musicians and supported our whole community by keeping gigs going through tough times. He’d keep ticket prices fair for punters to come.
He wanted the place hopping and would watch the gigs with a smile and a glass of wine siting quietly in the corner.
He gave me one of my first gigs in the Mean Fiddler in Dublin then when I moved to London I went to him
and he gave me a residency in his swanky
dinner/jazz club in Piccadilly Circus The Pigalle.
I thought it’d be a quiet Monday but not at all,
he gave me a packed Friday,
invited a bunch of well known figures
and told everyone to watch me.
I was so nervous but his belief in me made me want to rise to the challenge and do him and me proud.
He always fed and watered myself and the band
and even my parents who he gave the best seats in the house when they travelled over to see me.
He was unassuming, positive, supportive,
quiet, calm and trusted you to do your thing.
He loved Irish culture and was an essential part of life for the Irish community in the UK and his dedication
produced such joy and pride to so many
and raised both perceptions of us and moral in ourselves.
He started Feis Liverpool a huge festival that I loved to play. Again, to my surprise, first time I did it he put me head of he bill. Another time I was only delighted to be sandwiched between our beloved Shane and Van.
The crowd went wild as Vince expected.
I can’t explain how much he meant to us and me.
We always kept in touch and I loved
how proud he was when he’d see me do well.
He’d do anything for you if you needed.
Vince took a chance on me from the very start and
I said it from the stage of every gig I ever did for him,
how much I adored him and how grateful I was
and always will be to him.
I’ll miss his mischievous eyes and beaming grin.
I’ll miss him.
Thank you Vince Power. 💚
I send my heartfelt condolences to his family
and loved ones.
