I’m so sad to hear of the passing of Vince Power. I adored him and will be forever grateful to him for giving me a chance when I needed it most when starting out. He loved music and musicians and supported our whole community by keeping gigs going through tough times. He’d keep ticket prices fair for punters to come. He wanted the place hopping and would watch the gigs with a smile and a glass of wine siting quietly in the corner. He gave me one of my first gigs in the Mean Fiddler in Dublin then when I moved to London I went to him and he gave me a residency in his swanky dinner/jazz club in Piccadilly Circus The Pigalle. I thought it’d be a quiet Monday but not at all, he gave me a packed Friday, invited a bunch of well known figures and told everyone to watch me. I was so nervous but his belief in me made me want to rise to the challenge and do him and me proud. He always fed and watered myself and the band and even my parents who he gave the best seats in the house when they travelled over to see me. He was unassuming, positive, supportive, quiet, calm and trusted you to do your thing. He loved Irish culture and was an essential part of life for the Irish community in the UK and his dedication produced such joy and pride to so many and raised both perceptions of us and moral in ourselves. He started Feis Liverpool a huge festival that I loved to play. Again, to my surprise, first time I did it he put me head of he bill. Another time I was only delighted to be sandwiched between our beloved Shane and Van. The crowd went wild as Vince expected. I can’t explain how much he meant to us and me. We always kept in touch and I loved how proud he was when he’d see me do well. He’d do anything for you if you needed. Vince took a chance on me from the very start and I said it from the stage of every gig I ever did for him, how much I adored him and how grateful I was and always will be to him. I’ll miss his mischievous eyes and beaming grin. I’ll miss him. Thank you Vince Power. 💚 I send my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. #ripvincepower

It’s such an honour to announce a print collaboration with the National Print Museum Ireland, @nationalprintmuseum in aid of their fine work championing print and its impact on the world. ‘Beneath the Silken Sun’ is a poem I wrote for Susan and Elizabeth Yeats and recite in my documentary Lily & Lolly: The Forgotten Yeats Sisters. This print is produced by the superbly talented printing expert @maryjplunkett (grand niece of poet, journalist and 1916 activist Joseph Mary Plunket) at the Museum on handmade paper using the lettering and traditional processes employed by the Yeats sisters at Dun Emer and Cuala Press. All proceeds raised will be reinvested by the Museum in the preservation of letterpress printing at this working museum (a registered charity). Please visit this glorious place. The sounds of printers diligently at work, the smell of the inks, the devotion of everyone there to quality and to fine craftsmanship soothes the soul. (And food I had in the attached cafe was divine. Perfect place) Link to pre-order the prints in my Instagram stories.

I couldn’t be more humbled or grateful to such warm audiences and feedback. I hold Kathleen’s story very close to my heart, as I do all the women’s stories that have shaped the world but are too often unspoken about. It’s a privlege to bring her story and our history to the stage. @theeverymancork until this Saturday @3olympiatheatre August 13-18 #motherofallthebehans
See you this Sunday @forestfestemo for a special @shanemacgowanofficial tribute show lead by @sharonshannon joined by myself , @mundy_music, @liamomaonlai, @camilleosullivanpics and @rockyoriordan. We will gather in an unforgettable night of love and gratitude as we perform some of our dear friend Shane’s incredible songs. See you there X
Retracing the steps of Susan and Elizabeth Yeats, presenter Imelda May finds herself in Churchtown in Dublin where the sisters first set up Cuala Industries in 1908. What made Cuala Industries so remarkable in that it was the only Arts and Crafts press to be run and staffed exclusively by women and it is absolutely fitting to have this documentary premiere on International Women’s Day as we discover the story of two inspiring female trailblazers. Learn more about Lily and Lolly: the Forgotten Years Sisters this Friday at 8PM on Sky Arts and Now 📺 #lilyandlolly #iwd2024 #internationalwomensday #irishhistory #artsandcrafts #literaryrevival #yeatssisters #irishtv #documentary
I’m a huge supporter of giving up and coming Irish musicians a platform to take their career to the next level. That’s why I am delighted to be partnering with @threeireland and their #CityStages initiative to help prepare five incredible artists to play at this years @epfestival Three’s City Stages initiative has been a huge supporter of promoting grassroots artists giving them the opportunity to take their career from busking on the city streets to the big stages. @avamckechnie @iranibrinda @jamiemcintyre_music @tadhg_music @davelofts will be performing a mixture of originals and hit songs with an incredible full live band on Saturday, 17th August at 2pm on the Three Music Stage. Each of these five acts are very talented and I can’t wait to see this show come together for Electric Picnic. *AD
Thank you Cork!!! You were so warm and giving. 1st night preview show was received with open arms! The level of concentration it takes me to focus on delivering an hour and a half unprompted dialogue is unmatched but Peter Sheridans fluid script and Kathleen’s incredible stories make it fly by so fast we all want more! @seanygcreative on piano is such a rock for me to deliver songs we all know but really hear and feel in this context. I’m so grateful I get to do this and get to share a piece of our history with such heart and soul. This is Kathleen Behans story. It’s all our story. It’s our history not from a historian in a book but directly narrated from a daughter, wife, mother, activist, lover, stoic, witty, truly extraordinary matriarchal Irishwoman. I adore Kathleen as I know you will too. Hope to see you all soon. I’m at @theeverymancork now until 10th August then @3olympiatheatre from 13th-18th #motherofallthebehans P.S. thanks for not rattling bags of sweets so I can hold my focus 😅🙏❤️
