At the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center, JGI caregivers rescue, nurture, and rehabilitate chimpanzees, many of whom arrive traumatized and injured from the illegal wildlife trade. The youngest rescues join the Nursery Group, where their daily routine includes supervised forest excursions.
Recently, JGI staff cleared away dense vegetation to create a safe playground for these chimps. In the forest, they explore, climb tall trees, groom each other, nap, and play together. They’ve found a new family and a second chance at a happy life. 🌿💚
