Comment EAT and I’ll DM you the recipe right to your inbox! Aren’t we all guilty of having bags of carrots in all different sizes in the back of our fridge!? I definitely am… so when Katie Couric asked me WTH to do with them, I knew this was the perfect recipe. Tag me if you try it and let me know what ingredient I should tackle next! 🥕❤️
I was heartbroken to wake up to the news that @susanwojcicki had passed away at 56. Susan was a remarkable person. The CEO of @youtube from 2014 until she stepped down last year to spend more time with her family, she was a wife, daughter, sister, friend and visionary. I had the pleasure of meeting Susan on several occasions and she was so lovely. She was very committed to cancer research and sadly passed away from non small cell lung cancer. She had five kids—her son Marco tragically died of an accidental drug overdose at UC Berkeley this past February. So much unbearable heartache for this extraordinary family. And they are extraordinary. Susan’s sister @annewoj23 is the founder and CEO of @23andme and her sister Janet is a physician and professor. In 1998, she famously rented her Menlo Park garage to Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who used it as their original office. She joined the company and helped develop Google image search, which launched in 2001. Susan was the daughter of Esther Wojcicki, a journalist and author who was closely connected to the tech world and Stanley Wojcicki, a prominent physicist who taught at Stanford. I met Esther at a @vanityfair summit and she introduced herself to me as the mom of the Wojcicki girls. She was so proud of her daughters. Susan’s husband, Denis Troper. released this statement: “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki passing. My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer. Susan was not just my best friend and partner in life, but a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many. Her impact on our family and the world was immeasurable. We are heartbroken, but grateful for the time we had with her. Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time.” I am doing just that today and keeping all the Wojcickis in my heart as well as all those who loved Susan. This afternoon I’m holding a @su2c fundraiser and will match whatever money we raise in honor of Susan, a wonderful human who lived a truly exemplary life. ❤️StandUpToCancer.org/pickleball
Norah O’Donnell recently announced that she’s leaving her position as anchor of CBS Evening News. I sat in that chair for five years, and had some feelings about the changing of the guard at CBS — so I wrote an op-ed piece for the @nytimes. Swipe through for some excerpts from the piece, which you can read in full at the link in my bio. As always, let me know what you think! Illustration by Frank Augugliaro/The New York Times
“With fear for our democracy, I dissent.” Excerpts from Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s dissent in the Trump immunity ruling.
Hoping Larry David has a pretty, pretty, pretty good birthday! 🥳 PS: This was from The Kentucky Derby, ergo the fascinator lol! 🤪
Sundays are for catching up with a good book! 📚 One of my favorite bookstores is @BookHampton where I love getting recommendations from the staff picks. Let me know, what’s been your favorite summer read? 👇
Of course I needed @nealkatyal to weigh in even though I’m on Orcas Island (and apologize for the occasional seaplane overhead!) Neal says this is a sad day for our democracy. Watch if you’d like to hear his take.
❤️ This is amazing! @mikebloomberg’s organization @bloombergdotorg committed $600 million to the endowments of four historically Black medical schools to help secure their future economic stability. The gift includes $175 million each for Howard University College of Medicine, Meharry Medical College and Morehouse School of Medicine. Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science will get $75 million. Almost half of Black physicians graduate from those four historically Black medical schools, Bloomberg Philanthropies said. Black Americans fare worse in measures of health compared with white Americans, an Associated Press series reported last year. Experts believe increasing the representation among doctors is one solution that could disrupt these long-standing inequities. In 2022, only 6% of U.S. physicians were Black, even though Black Americans represent 13% of the population. 📹: Bloomberg Philanthropies
Mission accomplished! Our first Hamptons Pickleball/Tennis Tournament for @su2c (Stand Up to Cancer) was a big success! We raised $70,000 dollars for cancer research!!!! Thank you for everyone came and donated and bought a balloon for a raffle prize. And speaking of raffle prizes we had soooo many generous vendors/donors. There are too many to mention but I’m so grateful to all of you. Next year will be even bigger. Thank you to my pickleball friends (especially Ruth, Leslie, Laurie and Christine) for all your help! Even Molner came out to play (and wiped out but he’s fine). To Monica, Liz and everyone at @hamptonracquet thank you from the bottom of my heart. Okay I’m going to lie down now. I’m exhausted!!!! #su2c #pickleball #tennis #friendships 🎾👟🏓🥒🏸 PS and thank you to my friend and tennis pro Lisa Jones for taking some of these great snaps!!! Xoxo

Since last Thursday’s debate, numerous outlets have published pieces calling for Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race. While The New York Times called Biden’s campaign a “reckless gamble,” the Chicago Tribune said the idea of Biden serving four more years as President was “ridiculous.” Columnists in the Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, and the Washington Post echoed a similar loss of faith. Even Tom Friedman, a friend of the president’s, wrote in the NYT that he “has no business running for re-election.” Meanwhile, other elected officials and the Washington Post editorial board are saying he should continue to run and it was one bad night. “Bad debates happen,” Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) said on Meet the Press. “The question is, ‘Who has Donald Trump ever shown up for other than himself and people like himself? I’m with Joe Biden and it’s our assignment to make sure that he gets over the finish line come November.’” At the link in my bio, we have a rundown of who could replace President Biden as the democratic nominee—and the feasibility of getting his name off the ticket. What do you all think he should, or will, do? And if this is one of the most consequential elections of our lifetimes, is he the best person to defeat Donald Trump? 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
You just never know who you’ll find sitting at your desk at Madison Hall. Great spending time this semester with this former Cav Daily reporter and Lawn resident, Katie Couric ’79.
Another chat with my friend @goldsmithpolitics (Brian Goldsmith) about the Supreme Court immunity decision, @joebiden ‘s statement tonight from the White House and the latest conversations about whether President Biden should be the democratic nominee. What are your thoughts? I’d love to hear from you, dear followers.
You know it’s not officially summer until I have my tomato sandwich!! 🤪🍅🥪 We’re kicking off today’s special sandwich edition of my food newsletter with my favorite summer sandwich. 🔗Head to the link in my bio to make sure you’re signed up to get today’s “Good Taste” sent straight to your inbox and let me know below… 👇For your tomato sandwich, do you toast your bread or keep it room temperature?
Me again. I’m probably getting annoying but if you’re in #Easthampton today, come by our tennis/pickleball tournament (by the way, it’s going to be fun not competitive so you don’t have to be a good player—partners are being picked at random from a hat!) It’s benefiting @su2c and it’s going to be so fun and so many places have given us incredible raffle prizes. I’d love to see you all there! 🎾🏓👟❤️🥳😎 (if you’d like to donate even if you can’t come go to StandUpToCancer.org/pickleball Thank you!!! Xoxo
