This episode is so good and was a lot of fun to do! @charlesmetcalf is one of the brightest thinkers and voices around today and I’m excited for people to find out more about him. When we got to Tulsa, he instantly embraced my family and quickly became a confidante outside of me, for my children. We talk about that and how healing works when kids have been hurt due to no fault of their own.. we cover: -why his message “god chose me” resonated with so many people… -how to lead and thrive when you are not the boss of your organization. -what the pressure of ministry can look like for a dad and husband with 4 kids UNDER 5 years of age! -we talk in depth about anxiety and what we can all do to have more peace.. -we talk about preaching, preachers, where the church gets it right and where it has so much room to get so much better… There is laughter and tears in this episode, I know it’s gonna be a blessing to you.. thanks for listening and sharing and engaging with LightsOn! Listen tomorrow at 7 AM CT

Margin was something I always thought about but never dedicated myself to intentionally making it a hallmark and staple of my life. It cost me dearly. Now, it’s the primary gauge for how I make healthy decisions. If you can relate to feeling pulled in so many directions that you struggle to be present or fruitful in any of them, this episode is definitely for you. A life with margin equates to peace, boundaries that save, and priority things remaining exactly that. I feel like this episode covers so much good stuff: – Taking risks – How to know if you are healthy – One thing we would do differently in ministry – Why do some leaders go silent or bail on their relationships when things go south Is it fair or weak? – How to influence culture without getting sucked into it… – How to properly navigate criticism – Could it be true that if we change our goal to being healthy instead of “world changers,” the result might be changing the world? We did our best to cover these and more with truth and love. Hope it’s a blessing to you! Out on all platforms at 5 PM CT
I think this is the most valuable episode yet! 🔥 We answered the most prominent and interesting questions we received over the course of our first chapter of Light’s On and I think this could be really helpful! Starts easy and gets more difficult as the episode runs… 👀 – What is our stance on cursing? – What does temptation look like for me in this part of life? – What is our advice on whether somebody should stay or go in a situation w/ cheating? – What are automatic red flags? – What’s appropriate when talking about sex with your kids? – What practical things do we do to build trust after trust is lost? – Is narcissism an even bigger trap for pastors? – Why do so many leaders get quiet when their friends fall in public? – Why won’t I ever be on the same pickleball team as my wife as a marriage preservation technique?? Wish we could’ve gotten to all of them! Maybe we’ll have a part two? 🤔 Hope it’s a blessing to you! Available on all platforms, hits the BSIDE first at 8PM CT! 👉🅱️ #lightson
One of my favorite things about this podcast is the opportunity to speak directly about things that caused damage in my life. In hopes that others can glean from it and lean into a better way. I had to completely reconfigure how I operate in relationships, and we discuss that here. Maybe you can relate! If you are a leader and many of your friends work for you, it doesn’t mean their love is not authentic. It simply means the playing field cannot be equal, and that has to be accounted for. Narcissism is a trendy buzzword right now, often used as an insult or accusation, typically by people trained by TikTok rather than doctors. Obviously, that’s problematic. Yet, it’s important to face the reality that every human can be dangerously selfish. This trait is even more pronounced when you are a leader, especially if you are a pastor or spiritual leader. When you drop your defenses and honestly look at your own behavior, it’s amazing what kind of change that can produce. We shed some light on this topic in this episode, and hopefully, it brings help and clarity! #lightson
We all hope we’d stand by others in tough times, but we never really know until we’re tested. During a difficult season, I learned a lot about myself and the relationships I built. Both of hose were hard but needed lessons. Mike Todd has been a kind and present friend to me and my family. He faced criticism just for standing by me and that didn’t move him. He didn’t excuse my actions but showed love and set boundaries. As he explains in this episode, his approach reflects the pattern of Jesus. Our conversation challenged me to be a better friend, and I hope it does the same for you! Watch now on B-Side app and Youtube Listen on apple and spotify !
I know this episode is going to bless you! I love and respect @iammiketodd…He is a faithful, consistent and a very present husband and father. A lot of the new habits I have in regards to margin and consistency, have been curated/developed out of watching him model those with discipline.. He also happens to be a transcendent leader and those things I named are exactly why. We talk about his ability to remain a friend in the fire, and how special that is and he speaks to how he prepares his life to be in positions to be that. So, anybody looking to glean and grow in your ability to be a friend, you will love this.. available today on all platforms! 📺 Watch full episode on B-Side and 12 PM CT on YouTube! 🔈 Listen on… Spotify and Apple
Some of the best things in life happen due to “interruptions”.. My brother @chandlerdmoore happened to call mid taping.. we LOVE the song REFINER! It impacted the world and it reminds Laura and I of a very painful yet powerful part of our lives.. and it’s important to note: be careful what you pray for! What sings pretty doesn’t often translate to how it feels to undergo transformation.. sing it and do it anyway!! @chandlerdmoore new album dropped TODAY and it’s special. He is special. I’m so excited for what this album can produce in the lives of many… 👏🎤

I often wonder how many more people would step out and take important risks or realize epic dreams if they didnt care so much about what other people thought. “I want to be understood.” I have wasted valuable time and energy in my life, trying to fulfill a deep desire to be understood. Some of it comes from a good place. More of it, came from a broken place. Being on the other side of that for me has been extremely freeing and peaceful. At the outset of doing this podcast we already made the decision to move forward with what we are passionate about. We don’t have to convince anybody of anything. Thats not our job or our goal. Some will get it, some will not. Some will give grace, some will give none. Everybody will have an opinion. But all of that? None of my business! All we can ever control in this life is the health of our own lives. That revelation is really important! Can you relate to that? If you reflect on that and admit the need to please is more controlling than what you want it to be, thats a huge step and there is freedom in your future. Find the right people, listen to the right voices, get the right feedback and watch what can unfold.. Life is just way to short and WAY to precious, to spend any of it in fear of what others may think or say. Live your life! Hope this episode is a blessing.. Healthy. It’s so crucial to properly define what means in our lives! One of the ways I’ve tried to cultivate and continue healthy decision making is to INCLUDE SMART AND HEALTHY PEOPLE in the decision. It’s a habit that brings extreme confidence. We talk about that in this episode and touch on “fame”. Often people who make motive judgements or comments about it, have never experienced any degree of it which makes that speculation foolish. What I know to be true from my own experience with influence: it simply reveals who you are. For better and worse. For me? I was always somebody who pushed boundaries(sometimes that’s great) and made personal decisions internally according to what I was feeling(almost never great) with very little council or help at times. I was always very private about anything that scared me or was embarrassing to me. That eventually leads to disaster, as it did for me. “Fame” didn’t do that. My choices over a long period of time did that. So for those seeking more influence, be soberly mindful: the brighter the lights, the more your inner world will be exposed in whatever condition it’s in… “fame” is a construct and it’s fleeting. Healthy is a choice and nobody controls it but you! Part 2 is out now!!
