Melissa Joan Hart Instagram – One of my very bestest of friends lost her father today. And one of my other very bestest friends wrote a touching eulogy for him that I wanted to share so that Mr Engleman’s legacy could continue to delight people who don’t always know the people responsible for making the magic happen behind the camera. I am sad to announce that my best friend Kim Engelman’s father and Jennifer Zide’s stepfather Leonard Engelman has passed away after a short illness. He was 83.
His incredibly long and illustrious career began in the internship at Universal Studios. He was youngest makeup artist to be nominated for an Emmy with John Chamber’s for “Night Gallery-Pickman’s Monster”. He was a Make-up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Award winner as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award Winner. He has served as the Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch governor and a Vice President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the former director of education at Cinema Makeup School in Los Angeles. He was IASTE Local 706 Business Representative in between all of these amazing achievements.
His work spans film, television, commercials, music videos and editorial. His celebrity clients include Cher (Moonstruck, Burlesque), Michelle Pfeiffer (The Witches of Eastwick), Meg Ryan (Sleepless in Seattle) and Julie Andrews (The Princess Diaries). He has also worked with Val Kilmer (Heat), Chris O’Donnell (Batman & Robin) and Sylvester Stallone (Rambo, Rocky IV).
He was instrumental in getting the name of the AMPAS Makeup Artist branch changed to the Makeup Artist and Hairstylists branch and created the very popular symposium held before the Oscars. His brilliance will be sorely missed by everyone. | Posted on 02/Aug/2024 08:42:06
