Each year, millions of ungulates charge across the East African plains in search of fresh grazing grounds, trekking across vast savannahs and weaving their way through predator-rich woodlands. Perhaps their greatest challenge involves negotiating multiple river crossings where steep banks, opportunistic crocodiles and dangerous, churning waters sometimes combine. Predators like lions have learnt to take advantage of these natural obstacles, striking in the midst of the frenzy, often picking off the weaker members of the herd. It can be tough to watch these moments, but it’s a reminder of the delicate balance of life in the wild, where savagery and survival are deeply intertwined.⁣
