Beverly Joubert Instagram – In the amber glow of the golden hour, these silhouetted topi stood in symmetry like shadows on an auburn grassland. Specialist feeders, they spend much of their time grazing on open savannahs using their narrow muzzles to carefully pick at the most tender growth. They are a common sight in the Serengeti, but even on these vast plains they are threatened by expanding agriculture, roads and settlements. Their fussy diet makes them less adaptable than hardier antelope like wildebeest, and in the drier months they are often forced to compete with livestock for food.
