I want us to take a second and try to think back to our lives thirty years ago; think about what’s changed in the world since 1991. (Those of us who were alive back then probably deeply regret our haircuts!) There is one BIG thing that hasn’t changed since 1991, the federal subminimum wage — two dollars and thirteen cents ($2.13) — has remained the same. That means that 5 million tipped workers — 70 percent of whom are women and 43 percent people of color — haven’t gotten a raise in more than thirty years. Last night, I hosted @keeganmichaelkey, @junediane, @jessetyler, @ikebarinholtz, @badassboz, @mattbomer, @nischelleturner and @meena, and waited tables to raise money and support for @1fairwage_official and work making sure all workers in America, including tipped workers, are paid a full, fair, livable minimum wage. And a big thank you to @ladyhawkweho for having us!
