I marveled yesterday as I got my braids done (for many hours) in a Brooklyn hair salon, how specific and vivid @jjbioh portrayal of the dynamics of a hair salon full of Black women was. I felt like I was right in the world she crafted on that stage. Jaja’s African Hair Braiding is a revelation. We have never walked into that exact setting before or spent time with those particular people. And yet, it is such a universal celebration that one cannot help but relate to, no matter who you are. That is the gift that #JocelynBioh has always possessed, to give life to our stories with vivid humor and wit and heart wrenching humanity. She could not deserve this recognition more.
