Somehow I thought I was doing something noble by compartmentalizing and acting like things weren’t effecting me. But repressed emotions did nothing but keep me BLOCKED and ultimately in more pain – then inflicting that pain onto others. I learned the hard way- and I’m still learning. #overtheinfluence #September17
So many times I felt like I didn’t know how I was gonna keep going. But I had been on the same train so long I didn’t know how to stop- didn’t want to seem like I was giving up, getting off prematurely or letting anyone down any more than I already had. “Over the Influence” is for anyone who will ever have to take a cold hard look at themselves and be like “what the fck is going on here and why am I choosing to live this way?” How much longer could I betray my intuition and my inner voice and try to follow what other people thought was right for me in my own life? There were so many voices I trusted more than me that I stopped hearing my own. Maturity is realizing you can’t blame anyone else for your happiness. And accepting that if the same things seem to always end up happening- as much as it’s painful to accept and inconvenient to act on- the common denominator is you.
I’m so thrilled to announce that my new memoir OVER THE INFLUENCE has found a home with @panmacmillan overseas and it will now also be coming to bookstores in the UK and the Commonwealth (including Australia and New Zealand) on September 19th, 2024!
